Reviews of SAE Institute Brisbane
"First of all, graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor of animation - and one of the lucky few that ever reached gainful employment in my intake. Currently earning decent salary in a full-time position as a senior. Still don't look back on my time positively at all. The course was a mixture of filler - delivered in borderline useless ciu units, and the practical subjects - which although were delivered by dedicated and hardworking teachers - was not worth the exorbitant amount of money that I will now be paying off for the rest of my adult life. Because of course's length, and the lack of filtering for students skill levels, I felt constantly held back from exploring any topic beyond surface level - in group projects I was forced to carry the people in my team that were either outright not doing anything or were legitimately not able to understand the coursework. These people were then allowed to pass thanks to the arbitrary LO system, further devaluing my efforts and the money I spent on this degree. The lecturers I had for core subjects were pretty great, and is the only reason that I'd even give this place a star. I just don't think that after working in this industry for five years now professionally, that the degree was worth the paper it was printed on. In current year, you can go to QUT for 12,000 a year for three years - whereas I paid that easily per trimester. After graduating, and five years later, I now have HECS debt of about 90000 - and I still think about those people in my intake that have never found work - and whose balance has climbed even higher. As sad as it is - I'm one of the lucky ones. Do yourself a favour, don't go here."
"Two year course cost me $70,000 and don’t have any of the facilities of other courses that cost half as much. Don’t go here"
"Worst university hands down. It is just a straight up money grab, The facilities do not equate to what they are telling you. The teachers are very unprofessional, you rarely get Feedback on assignments you hand in therefore you can't change anything leading to a possible failing grade. The Work load is over your head regardless of who you are. I taught the teacher multiple times how to use the Premier pro editing software even though she was meant to be a Professional. I even had a teacher explain to the class she knew nothing about Australian cinema because she just recently moved here from overseas... And she would go on to mark my assignments that were based around Australian cinema. DO NOT FALL FOR THEIR TRAP"
"I finished up my Dip. Music Production a year or so ago now and had really good experiences at SAE. Ash is a fantastic teacher and really helped bring my production to another level. I think it's really one of those things that you get out what you put in. The music industry is a very challenging one to take on as a career. But SAE gave me lots of ideas of different avenues. On the whole, I'm happy just to be a better producer. The music theory classes could have been a bit stronger, but having students at a wide variety of levels to begin with, was a bit of a challenge. I think maybe having a short course before this subject to teach basic music theory to anyone who has no experience with it, would have helped give the class more flow. I would have really loved a more advanced music and songwriting theory class. I have however continued learning since SAE (the journey never ends) and think this is a great place to start for anyone interested in music production (and willing to work at it)."
"SAE is probably the worst thing to happen to the creative industry so far in Australia. With prices that rise every year (yes this is while you are completing your chosen course.. deferring is a terrible idea) SAE and other private universities that are taking advantage of FEE help are so expensive compared to mainstream universities that they would have to deliver a better service to be worth it.. which is not the case. No real pre-requisites are expected so they mainly rely on ensnaring young or not fully informed people into their courses. The only people who ended up working in the industry out of maybe 60 or so people that started or joined the course, throughout the 2 years I was there (so many people drop out that your original class withers down to about 5 and is bolstered by those struggling from years before you) only 2 are hired in the industry and that is low paying jobs in SAE itself. The debt your left with is not comparable with the pay you would receive in creative industries in Australia except, maybe, at the top echelons. I advise you to review the pricing and then look at law or medicine courses... you pay more to be a live sound tech.. which is insane. The staff have a very unprofessional way of dealing with students and are constantly changing their course structure because its constantly failing.. this could be seen as improving but I never saw any evidence of that."
