Welcome to Banks Street Kindy, a small not-for-profit community kindergarten located on the grounds of Newmarket State School in Brisbane, Australia. Our dedicated team of experienced and passionate educators are committed to inspiring and guiding your child through a learning journey of self-discovery, social cohesion, and life readiness.

What sets Banks Street Kindy apart is our highly qualified staff. Led by Director Sharon Kemp, who holds a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) with Honours and a Masters in Education, our team is dedicated to improving and developing early childhood education. With a wealth of experience, our educators focus on building relationships with the children, fostering their confidence, capabilities, and skills, preparing them for their transition to Prep.

Our dedicated Art Program, led by Kath the Art Lady, is a highlight of our curriculum. Through discussions and creative activities, children develop their artistic skills and produce impressive individual and collaborative masterpieces. Last year, children explored the concept of air entering our lungs, comparing it to the trees inside our bodies, showcasing the depth of their learning.

We also place a strong emphasis on indigenous perspectives, wellbeing, and education for sustainability. Our program incorporates nature experiences, natural resources, native and food gardens, daily acknowledgement of country, and embedded Aboriginal ways of learning, fostering a strong connection to our country and environment. A highlight of the year is our Bush Kindy, where we explore the local Banks Street Reserve and learn about its unique features.

Furthermore, our strong connection to Newmarket State School prepares children for their transition to primary school. Through excursions to the school, participation in school events, and interactions with older students, children gain a better understanding of what big school is like, building their confidence and excitement for their future education.
