About Queensland Blue Light Association Incorporated
Welcome to the website of Queensland Blue Light Association Incorporated, a renowned establishment located at 9 Chardean Street, Acacia Ridge, Australia. As an institution dedicated to supporting Queensland youth through drug and alcohol-free programs and activities since 1984, we believe in the power of small changes to make a big impact in someone's life.
The concept of small changes leading to significant and sometimes unpredictable outcomes is at the core of our work. We understand that even the tiniest positive change can contribute to creating meaningful transformations in individuals' lives and larger systems. Our belief in this concept serves as a reminder that our choices and actions, no matter how small they might seem, can have far-reaching consequences.
To illustrate this concept, imagine playing a game of billiards on a pool table. When you line up your shot and hit the cue ball with a certain amount of force and at a particular angle, the balls on the table scatter and collide with one another. Now, let's say that your shot was slightly off and you hit the cue ball just a fraction of a degree differently than you intended.
In the short term, this small deviation might not seem significant. However, as the balls continue to collide and interact, their paths become increasingly different from what they would have been if the initial shot had been accurate. Over time, the arrangement of the balls on the table can become dramatically different from what it would have been with the precise shot. This analogy demonstrates the potential for small changes to have a profound impact.
At Queensland Blue Light, we are proud of our EDGE Program (Educate, Develop, Grow, Empower). Since 2018, this 8-week program has improved the lives of over 2000 young people through teaching discipline, goal setting, teamwork, physical and mental health, decision making, positive peer pressure, and healthy relationships with family, friends, and the community.
Our ELEVATE program focuses on educating young people to prevent them from becoming victims or perpetrators of domestic and family violence. Through this program, youth learn to recognize different forms of violence, where to seek help, and how to foster respectful relationships. The program is delivered by the police, Blue Light staff, and volunteers.
As a not-for-profit organization, Queensland Blue Light has been supporting youth through drug and alcohol-free programs and activities since 1984. Our programs are designed to steer young people away from criminal and anti-social behaviors, with police officers and civilian volunteers serving as positive role models.
One of our notable programs is the Shearing Program, which aims to change the mindset of at-risk youth in rural communities. This eight-week course, run over two years, teaches all aspects of wool handling and provides participants with a Certificate II in Rural Operations. The program not only offers mentoring by police officers and suitable role models but also provides a pathway to employment for young people from rural areas.
While we are well-known for our Blue Light discos and movie nights, we have evolved over the years to deliver primary prevention and intervention programs. These programs promote positive social interactions, skill development, and personal growth among young individuals.
We would like to express our gratitude to Blue Light for sponsoring youth leadership camps and trips to various destinations, such as Yeppoon and Canberra. These experiences have provided young people with unique opportunities for personal growth and unforgettable memories.
We also extend our thanks to everyone who has supported our programs, including the organizers and supervisors who have made our events, such as sports camps and discos, memorable for participants of all ages.
Lastly, Queensland Blue Light acknowledges the traditional owners of the land and pays respect to their ancestors and elders, both past and present.
Thank you for visiting our website, and we invite you to explore further to learn more about our institution and the programs we offer to support Queensland youth.
