"I bought a Zyrtec oral solution for my one year old. I showed the salesperson the prescription from the GP. Then the girl told me it’s an over the counter medicine and they don’t need the prescription. And showed me all the choices in terms of volume. I thought a smallest would do, and the girl also agreed and said it’s only 2ml twice a day according to the prescription. The thing is when I was about to give the medicine, I found the medicine box instructs 4 drops for the age of my child and obviously 2ml is much more than 4 drops. It was night time and not suitable to call to confirm so to be safe we gave only 4 drops according to the instruction rather than the prescription. Then I read a few times about the prescription and found that the prescription is 200ml medicine with 1mg/ml. But the one I bought is 20 ml with 2.5mg/5drops. I was so scared and a big relief that we gave based on the instruction. Otherwise, the antihistamine could be overdosed and stop breathing. Obviously the salesperson did not give me the right information and product and they definitely should check the prescription carefully rather than use their common sense. They need more training regarding this. So parents should be always careful about a prescription about over the counter medicine. I learned a lesson."
