About Moreton Bay Hinterland Visitor Information Centre
Welcome to the Moreton Bay Hinterland Visitor Information Centre, located in Woodford, Australia. Situated on Archer Street, number 127, this establishment serves as both a travel agency and a point of interest for tourists and locals alike.
When you step into our Centre, you will be greeted by our friendly and knowledgeable staff, consisting of nearly 20 dedicated volunteers. We assist approximately 15,000 visitors each year, providing them with valuable information and detailed maps of Woodford and its surrounding areas.
As a tourist information hub, we offer FREE Wi-Fi for your convenience. Additionally, if you are part of a bus tour group, you can book free guided tours of Woodford through our Centre.
The Woodford Visitor Information Centre has an interesting history. Originally, it operated from a caravan during its trial period in 2010. In 2012, it found its permanent home in a charming cottage on the same site. This cottage was purpose-built and carefully maneuvered into place in two parts.
In 2022, Woodford was nationally recognized by the Campervan and Motorhome Club Australia as an RV Friendly Town, the first of its kind in South East Queensland.
The Centre is conveniently located near four of Woodford's attractions. The iconic water tower, which is part of the Windows of Woodford Art Trail, stands tall beside the Visitor Information Centre at the intersection of Archer Street and Margaret Street. The town also houses a decommissioned Leopard Tank AS1, the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum, and the Woodford Historical Society & Community Museum.
The water tower is a must-see, adorned with colorful window-like murals. You can explore 12 panels featuring aspects of the artwork on the town's lamp poles, and even the public toilet block windows display artwork. Throughout Woodford, you'll also find 10 bollards beautified with water tower artwork replications, accompanied by a stanza from the poem 'Bandicoot Dreaming' by Mark Feldman, and mosaic tiles crafted by artist Beverley Ridsdill-Kenny and community members.
Adjacent to the water tower is Sale Yards Park, home to the monument site of Woodford Memorial Park. Here, you can take a memorable photo with the decommissioned Leopard Tank. These tanks played a vital role in Australia's defense for over 30 years, and Woodford is proud to have one on display.
For railway enthusiasts, the Australian Narrow Gauge Railway Museum Society offers a unique collection of two-foot gauge steam, diesel, and petrol locomotives and rolling stock. On the first and third Sundays of the month, you can even take a train ride on the Durundur Railway, departing from Margaret Street and traveling to Storey Brook and back.
The Woodford Community Museum is another gem within our Centre. It showcases the history of Woodford's early settlers and explorers, as well as rotating exhibitions of artwork by local artists. If you visit on a Saturday, you can participate in drawing or painting workshops, or unleash your creativity on the Social Creativity Day held every Wednesday morning.
If you're looking for accommodation, Bellthorpe Stays offers a great place for you, your family, or your friends to enjoy the beautiful outdoors. For a memorable dining experience, head to Birches Restaurant atop Mt Mee, where you can savor modern Australian cuisine while taking in breathtaking views of the countryside and beyond.
Woodford Gardens, a family-run cafe and function center, is another delightful spot in Woodford. With its beautifully manicured lawns and gardens spanning four acres, it's the perfect place to relax and enjoy a meal.
Golf enthusiasts will find a hidden gem at Woodford Golf Club. This 18-hole course is known for its natural beauty, making it a true asset to the Moreton Bay Region.
For a unique tea experience, Arakai Estate is breaking the rules of tea production. They use Japanese green tea varieties processed in the Taiwanese style to create flavors that cater to Australian tastes.
We would like to take a moment to acknowledge and pay our respects to the traditional owners of the lands and waterways in the Moreton Bay Region β the Kabi Kabi/Gubbi Gubbi, Jinibara, and Turrbal people. We recognize their ongoing connection to this land and acknowledge them as the original custodians.
At the Moreton Bay Hinterland Visitor Information Centre, we are here to enhance your Woodford experience. Whether you're a local or a visitor, we invite you to explore all that Woodford and its surrounding areas have to offer.
