Reviews of Lake Atkinson Resort & Waterfront Camping
"Just spend the night here. Staff were very friendly and super helpful. Their Woodfired Pizza delivered straight to our campsite was sensational. Loved the fact that we could camp looking directly at the Lake. And to take the free to use canoes out for a paddle. We'll definitely be back. Thank you."
"Had a great stay here with managers only to happy to help out when needed , unfortunately weather wasn't the best and a few camps got flooded us included but all had smiles in the morning hanging up the wet stuff . Great family time was had with our speed boat n only 1star removed as boat ramp was difficult to launch unless a 4x4 . Great spot"
"A real mixed bag; overall enjoyed the stay. The good: Kids had a ball & didn't want to leave. Views across the dam on a clear morning/night is very scenic & restful. Friendly staff. Plenty of space per site. Lots of parrots (very noisy in the morning & at night but that's what parrots do). Pet friendly. Some powered sites. Cheap firewood - $25 for a small trailer load - very generous. Pizza delivered to your campsite - $20 each. Shop on site - prices are as you would expect at a camp shop. Powerful hot showers at no charge! Tour of animal farm - fun for the kids. Inexpensive; $19.50 per adult per night, $7.50 per night per child. Kayaks & lifejackets, free of charge. We found out campers have stolen many kayaks over the years. Rude! They need to implement a rental agreement & a deposit scenario to protect their equipment, even if they later refund the deposit to maintain providing kayaks for free use. A deposit & expecting to get the kayak back is a reasonable expectation. The bad: The proximity of the road to the campsite means you get a lot of heavy truck noise. Unsafe web of extension power cords out in the weather, providing power to the toilet facilities. Can't be safe. Animal farm; the farm yards aren't in great repair, & the animals don't all look well cared for. FYI, a 20yo horse, while oldish, should not look starved. They say it's because he's 20. I don't agree. It's kinda sad. Generally all the animals smell terrible & aren't kept in great conditions. Toilets aren't cleaned daily, which is a problem given their general poor repair, and the thick layers of bugs on every surface. Toilet paper isn't topped up, & soap was always empty. No paper towels for hand drying. Disorganised booking; called, tried to book, they said just show up & pay when you get here. While that might not be a hassle in the big scheme of things, the problem we faced was no one was at the shop to check us in & take our payment. Also, as a business, it surely opens them up to a lot of no-shows; no payment, means no real obligation to show up. Just poor business practice. Life jackets; very old with broken straps. The ugly: The place generally is in very poor repair. In some parts, there is just a general lack of maintenance; *broken fencing *uncleaned pool *poor drainage on camp roads, surrounding the pool, near the chicken/duck/turkey/goose enclosure (no doubt contributing to the bug situation) *broken toilet bowl *septic systems must need repair/servicing as you can smell them when you approach the toilets & if the wind blows a certain way (also imagine this contributes to the bug problem) The dump; in a couple of places, there is a literal dump of rubbish. One spot looks to be a semi-permanent place to burn general rubbish, however there are large left over metal items that don't burn along with an oven and couch, old tyres, plus a cardboard box graveyard - pending burning I assume. Generally, there are two main spots that are dump sites & it just looks so terrible. The bugs are absolutely horrendous; *you basically can't have a light on anywhere you want to sit after dark *bugs quite literally cover the floors, walls & toilets of the toilet facility making going to the bathroom a real test of courage *the swarms of bugs are apparent the second you step out of your car into a literal cloud of them *most bugs don't bite, which is a small relief, but there certainly is a large number of mosquitoes *Bug screens and repairing holes in buildings would contribute greatly to reducing anxiety when using the facilities Centrelink village; by their own admission, the permanent resident population is "sponsored by centrelink". I have no problem with folk living there, or that they are on public support. However, I would imagine the owners should encourage or require that each lot is kept up to a decent standard. There is a lot of unkempt lots, with rubbish & clutter, cobbled together bits & pieces holding these "houses" together. It's an eye-sore. This place needs millions spent on it to bring it up to a decent standard."
"Beautiful location. Waterfront views with the bushland surrounding you. We keep coming back because of the friendly, helpful staff who go above and beyond to meet your needs. The family loves the dam and the pool. Campgrounds are spacious and we bring our two dogs who also love it and have a great time."
"Close to home. Great price for a powered site. The sites for tents was big enough for the tent and a car with room to spare. The park also offered for us to borrow canoes and you can even go pat the animals that live there. The staff were friendly, super helpful and great to chat to. Will definitely be coming back. Thanks for a great stay."
