Maternal and Child Health Centre
About the Business
Welcome to the Maternal and Child Health Centre in Kensington, Australia! Our dedicated team of maternal and child health nurses are highly qualified in nursing, midwifery, and maternal and child health. They are part of a local network of health and support services, ensuring that families receive comprehensive care and can be referred to other support agencies if needed.
At our centre, we prioritize the health, safety, and wellbeing of both children and families. We offer 10 key stages of your child's development that you will attend, where your child will receive a developmental assessment. During these visits, our nurses provide valuable information on various parenting topics and issues. Additionally, they can help you join new parent's groups, sleep and settling groups, and connect you with local community activities and services for extra support when necessary.
When your baby is born, our maternal and child health service will contact you to arrange your first appointment, which is typically conducted in the comfort of your own home. Follow-up appointments will be held at one of our six local centres conveniently located across the City of Melbourne.
If you have recently moved into the area, please call us to make a booking with one of our nurses. And if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please contact us during business hours or email us with the necessary details.
We understand the importance of communication, and our staff regularly work with interpreters to ensure everyone can access our services. Please bring your child's green book, also known as My Health, Learning and Development Record, to each appointment. This book will serve as a record of your child's milestones, health, growth, and development, as well as their immunizations.
Speaking of immunizations, please note that starting from January 1, 2023, our nurses will no longer provide immunizations during consultations. However, you can still receive free immunizations from the council.
Due to the ongoing impacts of COVID-19, some of our services may need to prioritize essential services. However, all vulnerable children and families are still eligible for maternal and child health appointments across Victoria. We have also adapted our services to offer alternative modes of delivery, such as telephone or online consultations.
For families requiring more intensive home visiting support, we offer an enhanced maternal and child health service. This includes thorough development screening assessments to identify any areas of need that may require early intervention.
Our sleep and settling model of care provides evidence-informed support for parents and caregivers who have concerns in this area. We offer sessions on specific dates, and you can request a booking for these sessions.
We proudly provide maternal and child health services from multiple centre locations across the City of Melbourne. We also acknowledge and pay respect to the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong Boon Wurrung peoples of the Eastern Kulin. We are committed to our reconciliation journey, aiming to strengthen relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples for the benefit of all Victorians.
Thank you for choosing the Maternal and Child Health Centre. We look forward to supporting you and your family on your journey of health and wellbeing.
