About Monash Health Drug & Alcohol Service: Primary Health Clinic & Needle Syringe Program
Welcome to Monash Health Drug & Alcohol Service: Primary Health Clinic & Needle Syringe Program, located at 122 Thomas Street, Dandenong. As an establishment focused on health, we are a point of interest for individuals seeking assistance with problematic drug and alcohol use in Australia.
Formerly known as SEADS, Monash Health Drug & Alcohol Services offers a range of services to support individuals facing drug and alcohol challenges. Our team understands the importance of language accessibility and can arrange interpreters for those whose first language is not English.
Our Primary Health Clinic provides comprehensive healthcare services, including pharmacotherapies, acute drug overdose response, sexual health, vaccinations, general and specialized healthcare, nursing care, mental health support, dietary advice, gender-specific services, and practical assistance for individuals who inject drugs. For complex cases, our team of general practitioners, nurse practitioners, and community health nurses collaborates to develop and manage personalized treatment plans. Less complex cases are stabilized and referred to practitioners in their home suburb, with or without opiate pharmacotherapy treatment.
Our Needle and Syringe Program (NSP) offers a free and integrated service for people who inject drugs. We prioritize confidentiality, non-judgment, and accessibility, operating on a drop-in basis. Our on-site NSP provides a wide range of equipment under a Harm Minimization Framework. Additionally, our NSP Outreach service covers the Cities of Greater Dandenong, Casey, and Frankston, ensuring access to sterile injecting and other equipment.
We also offer training and distribution of naloxone, a medication used to temporarily reverse opioid overdose. Individuals at risk or those who may witness an opioid overdose can receive free naloxone and learn how to use it from our Dandenong NSP.
Our Addiction Medicine Unit has evolved from a 2002 initiative to reduce emergency department presentations to a full specialist consultation liaison service. Our team comprises Clinical Nurse Consultants, a Community Development worker, Addiction Specialist Consultants, and medical staff. The Clinical Nurse Consultants provide advanced assessment, care, and discharge planning advice for individuals of all ages presenting with conditions caused or exacerbated by problematic drug or alcohol use. We also provide community support for individuals discharged from the hospital, ensuring ongoing treatment and care.
For referrals to our Addiction Medicine Unit, please contact us at 9554 8201 or fax 9554 8693. Interpreter services are available at (03) 9594 2375 or (03) 9554 8860.
At Monash Health, we acknowledge and pay respects to the Traditional Custodians of the land, the Wurundjeri and Boonwurrung peoples. We are committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment that embraces all backgrounds, cultures, sexualities, genders, and abilities.
