Latrobe College of Art & Design
About the Business
Welcome to Latrobe College of Art & Design (LCAD), Australia's leading Visual Art & Design College. Located in Collingwood on Cromwell Street, our institution offers specialized training in Visual Arts, Graphic Design, and Photography. With small class sizes and dedicated studio spaces, our students have the opportunity to learn skills across a broad range of creative disciplines within a supportive, inclusive, and tutorial-based environment.
At LCAD, we have a holistic focus on art and design, allowing our students to develop their craft and forge a unique path under the guidance of passionate staff and key industry professionals. For over 28 years, we have been delivering accredited Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses in Visual Art, Graphic Design, and Photography to both local and international students. We also offer single subjects in painting, drawing, sculpture, studio practice, art history and theory, as well as various graphic design and photography disciplines.
Established in 1995, LCAD is a government-approved, independent tertiary institution. This year marks our 28th year of delivering world-class education, and we remain energized by the challenges and opportunities presented by a post-Covid environment. Our reputation for success in the arts is evident through the award-winning and highly recognized work of our graduates, who continue to shape the fabric of our cultural landscape. Whether it's exhibiting, working in design firms, creating businesses, winning awards, receiving creative opportunities internationally, or pursuing further tertiary study, our students' consistent success in the creative industry is a testament to the vitality and relevance of our college.
But don't just take our word for it. Here's what one of our students had to say: "I have absolutely loved everything about studying at LCAD! An excellent, small, art encompassing environment, with friendly like-minded people and expert practicing artist teachers. The overseas trips were fantastic too!"
Located near us is the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), the oldest and most visited gallery in Australia. With two magnificent buildings - NGV International and NGV Australia - the gallery hosts a wide range of international and local artists, exhibitions, programs, and events, providing our students with further inspiration and exposure to the art world.
At LCAD, we pride ourselves on our experienced teachers and complete focus on art and design. We believe that learning from industry professionals and those at the forefront of the field is crucial for our students' success. That's why we took the time to speak with LCAD Founder, Bion Balding, about what makes our college so special, what students can expect in a post-Covid environment, and the importance of learning from industry professionals.
Additionally, we are proud to acknowledge the achievements of our alumni, such as Emma Sadler Eriksson, who was awarded the 2021 Dean Cogle Portrait Prize. You can view Emma's winning self-portrait at Dust Temple on the Gold Coast until September 2 and explore more of her work on her Instagram page, emmase.art.
Lastly, we would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, on whose unceded lands we conduct our business. We respectfully acknowledge their ancestors and elders, past, present, and emerging.
