About The Pillars
Welcome to The Pillars, located at Mount Martha, Esplanade, in Australia. As an establishment, point of interest, and tourist attraction, The Pillars offers a variety of experiences for visitors to enjoy.
The Briars, the main attraction at The Pillars, is a much-loved community space that is perfect for a day out. Visitors can take a walk through the Wildlife Sanctuary, where they can admire the diverse flora and fauna, or enjoy a BBQ with family and friends in the picturesque surroundings. Exploring the outbuildings and heritage garden surrounding the Briars Historic Homestead is also a must-do activity.
The institution has worked closely with the community to develop a master plan aimed at protecting and enhancing this wonderful place. This commitment to preservation extends to the natural environment, as dogs are prohibited from The Briars due to its sensitive ecosystem. However, visitors can still walk their dogs on a leash along Balcombe Creek trail or in designated areas of the co-located Community Forest.
For those with a green thumb, The Briars Nursery is a haven for plant enthusiasts. They grow beautiful plants indigenous to the peninsula, as well as a range of native Australian plants ready for your garden. Phone and email orders are welcome.
Education is also a key focus at The Pillars. The Briars offers Biological Science and Sustainability programs for students from Foundation to Year 6. Additionally, they have a Cultural Program in partnership with Living Culture and Anical Encounter sessions with Ranger Dyllan. These sessions run weekly throughout the school term and can be booked for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with up to three sessions per day.
The Briars Historic Homestead, one of the oldest houses on the Peninsula, showcases the resilience and bravery of early European settlers. It is a beautiful example of local history and offers visitors a glimpse into the past.
The Pillars also provides a range of outdoor venues, such as the Marquee and the Historic Gardens, suitable for various function types, whether large or small. Bookings are currently being taken.
Situated on the Mornington Peninsula, The Briars is a beautiful conservation park spread across 230 hectares. It is a haven for nature lovers, with a range of walking trails available both within the Wildlife Sanctuary and around the property.
The Briars Master Plan, a collaboration between the Council and the community, aims to protect, celebrate, and enhance the natural, heritage, and cultural beauty of this beloved community asset. Ideas from the community have been compiled to create this plan, ensuring that The Briars remains a cherished place for generations to come.

Reviews of The Pillars
"Stunning place. Steep cliffs. The walking track is clear. Be careful of traffic when crossing the road. Great fishing spot too. No tickets needed. Crowded in summer and parking is difficult. Expect a walk from the onroad parking."
"Cool place for a swim or just a lookout into the bay. Just be careful getting down to it, parking can be found a few minutes walk down the road."
"One of the best BoatIn spots on Port Phillip Bay, a spot we have easier spent all day at. Best access by boat, as no parking and cliff top road is super tight and dangerous to walk along. Once you are at the cliffs, the atmosphere on a sunny summers day is next level… Greece in Aus. Avoid northerly winds because it gets choppy. "One of the best spots to swim in Victoria. The water is clear and clean and the vibe here is amazing. Just choose a sunny day and visit this place for insane fun and some dips. The place is visited by many people and there is always someone around during summer sunny days. The cliffs are marked unstable so watch out and stay safe. Parking is a bit of a hassle and there is 1 hour parking next to the road when you drive towards Mount Martha beach from that spot. If you park in any of the lane ways, your car is bound to get fined or towed as the owners complain a lot."
"Great place only just over an hour out of Melbourne and it feels like somewhere off the coast of Italy. The jump rock isn’t that high but also the water you jump into isn’t that deep so try not to go down really far underwater when you jump because you’ll hit the bottom. There is no shade here and it’s really busy on hot days."
