"The mantu were interesting, dumplings but make them Afghani. A dozen pcs so was a great plate to share. I'll be honest the fam didnt like them so much. I think they're too used to Asian dumplings to comprehend. The onion, beef combo threw them off. I though they were nice with the yogurt and channa daal on top. 7/10 Qaboli Pulao was Spectacular. I've not had such a melt in your mouth lamb shank. It was sooo juicy and so good. Carrots were tossed with extra sugar, so were extra sweet which I thought was a fun combination with the rice and lamb. 9/10 Khaybar special, 3 bbq skewers with your choice of side. All good things to say about the mince, which was like kafte, soo good! The lamb botis were fun too, a prominent black pepper flavor. The chicken was so-so. Very muted compared to our tikka flavors which you inadvertently compare with. Roti fresh off the tandoori was lovely, I liked how you could actually taste the wholemeal flour. 7/10 Food flavors were clean, umami and simple. Ambience was lovely, staff was sweet and helpful with her suggestions. It was definitely priced on the higher side. But would recommend for a one time adventure."
"Our experience was totally at the other end of the spectrum. We were a party of four exploring Auburn's delights. Came across Khaybar and decided to stop for lunch. The owner was a delightful host who guided us through the menu (being new to Afghan cuisine) and made some recommendations. We went with his recommendations and had a delightful selection of meat, vegetables, bread and rice. At first we thought we might have to pack some of the food. In the end, the plates were wiped clean with the last bits of Afghan bread, soaking up every bit of the gravy anywhere. The restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived. However, by the time we left about 90 mins later, it was bustling with many family groups arriving. It made it more homely. We felt we had dined in the owner's home and experienced a taste of Afghan hospitality at Khaybar."
"Very disappointed in this restaurant. It changed a lot since the last time we have been there. Very misleading menu description and greedy owners. I went yesterday with my family and one of the dishes we ordered was mantu and on the menu it said it comes with salad and when they brought it, no salad was served. When I asked the waitress, she said it didn't come with salad and when I showed her the menu, she said that's a mistake. I think the owner should take a look at that and change it. It's very misleading thinking the price includes something when it doesn't. The salad that comes with other dishes is veryyy small anyway and I'm sure it doesn't cost much to make it bigger. Only has a bit of cucumbers and tomatoes and parsley. The food was okay, not like it was before. One of the dishes my uncle ordered was very small. Price should be less at least if you're only going to serve 2 pieces of meat. Photo is attached. I also found hair in my rice and I told the waitress. I feels very uncomfortable coming back to this restaurant after this. I understand accidents happen but the chef or the manager/owner should at least come out and apologise like some other restaurants do. We also got bread but unlike other restaurants, you have to order the bread as an appetiser. They also don't serve table water like some other people have stated, you have to buy a water bottle which is greedy. It was hot yesterday and the restaurant wasn't cool. I think only a couple of fans were on. If you want to succeed as a restaurant, please consider some of the points I mentioned, and don't be greedy, otherwise you'll eventually close down. You were a very good restaurant and your prices and portions were reasonable. Not anymore. Think about this."
"Its a fine dine Afghani Cuisine. I really liked the decorations and paintings on the walls. It gives a modern touch while keeping in authentic values. The food was good. It was fresh and tasty. The restaurant service was good. Order arrived within few minutes. The staff was very helpful and cooperative. Mantu were steamed to perfection as you get mild daal/lentil flavour from outside and then burst of meaty flavour packed inside. The bread/roti was freshly baked, it was awesome. Salad and sauces were upto mark as well Highly recommended as the venue is neat and tidy, food is good so is service. Just a little expensive price tag for food ."
"Was excited to try this place but was unfortunately left with a sour experience. Awful service and expensive prices for subpar food. They don’t offer any table water so you’ll have to buy their overpriced alkaline water. Condiments weren’t offered and had to constantly ask to which the waiter seemed annoyed. Save your dollars and head to Kabul House Merrylands for an Afghan feed that’s worth your money."
