Monash Special Developmental School

Welcome to Monash Special Developmental School, located in Wheelers Hill, Australia. As an establishment, point of interest, and school, we are dedicated to providing exemplary individualized programs for students aged 2.8 to 18 years old with a diagnosed intellectual disability and/or multiple disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder.

At Monash, we believe in creating a dynamic and vibrant learning community. Our highly motivated and dedicated team of staff is committed to supporting all our students to reach their individual potential. We use a variety of online services and applications to support and enhance our students' educational experiences, creating a high-quality and innovative learning environment. These programs combine evidence-based strategies that align with the Victorian Curriculum.

Our institution encompasses three sections to cater to the diverse needs of our students. The Monash Early Education Program offers a comprehensive, research-based program for preschool-age children diagnosed with a developmental delay or disability. The Primary section caters to students aged 5-12 years, providing the best possible program incorporating DET guidelines and the Victorian Curriculum. The Junior Secondary Section is designed for students aged 12-15 years with a moderate to profound intellectual disability, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or multiple disabilities.

Since 2017, Monash SDS has implemented the STAR and Links Program throughout the school. Students begin working towards their independence from the early years as we introduce them to individualized schedules, establishing structure and predictability within their day. Our program has the capacity to engage and challenge students, allowing them to maximize their individual talents and capabilities.

At Monash Special Developmental School, we are committed to SWPBS (School-Wide Positive Behavior Support) as it helps create and maintain a positive, safe, and supportive learning environment. Experienced special education teachers deliver high-quality programs to promote learning and development in the key areas of communication, social skills, personal independence, and academic instruction.

It is important to note that to enroll your child in our institution, they must be eligible for funding through the Program for Students with Disabilities (PSD). We strive to provide the best possible education and support for our students, acknowledging the Bunurong People as the Traditional Owners of the land on which we teach and learn. We pay our respects to their Elders, both past and present.
