Dr Gzell's journey in the medical field began with her Bachelor of Medical Science (BMedSc) from the University of Sydney, followed by a Bachelor of Medicine (BMed) from the University of Newcastle. She then pursued specialized training in radiation oncology at the prestigious Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, earning her fellowship from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) in 2011. Dr Gzell's passion for neuro-oncology led her to complete a post-graduate fellowship at Royal North Shore Hospital, where she conducted research and published papers on high-grade gliomas. This research formed the basis of her Ph.D., focusing on optimizing outcomes for patients with glioblastoma through radiation therapy.
While Dr Gzell excels in her clinical work, she maintains a strong interest in clinical research and education. She is a proud member of the Society of Neuro-Oncology (SNO, USA) and actively contributes to the Co-operative Trials Group for Neuro-Oncology (COGNO). Dr Gzell's expertise is recognized internationally, as seen through her appointments as the treasurer of the Stereotactic Interest Group of Australasia (SIGA) and a board member of the International Stereotactic Radiosurgical Society (ISRS). Additionally, she holds a senior lecturer position at Macquarie University, further demonstrating her commitment to education and sharing her knowledge.
Before joining Icon, Dr Gzell served as a neuro-oncology radiation oncologist at St Vincent's and Macquarie University Hospitals from 2014 to 2022. Throughout her career, she has developed specialized skills in the use of stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic radiation therapy techniques. Her clinical expertise covers a wide range of solid tumor malignancies, with a particular focus on brain cancer, primary and secondary central nervous system (CNS) neoplasms, and benign intracranial and base of skull lesions.
