Melbourne Polytechnic (Fairfield Campus)
About the Business
Welcome to Melbourne Polytechnic's Fairfield Campus! Located at Fairfield, Yarra Bend Road, 101, our institution is a point of interest in Australia. Situated in stunning parklands by the Yarra River, our Fairfield campus is a beautiful heritage-listed site with a rich history.
At Melbourne Polytechnic Fairfield, we offer a diverse range of Horticulture, Creative Arts, and Performing Arts courses. Whether you're interested in exploring the world of plants, unleashing your creativity through various art forms, or pursuing a career in the performing arts, our campus has something for everyone.
Our campus was acquired by Melbourne Polytechnic in 2004 and was formerly home to the internationally renowned Fairfield Infectious Diseases Hospital. This hospital, which closed in 1996, treated various infectious diseases, including typhoid, diphtheria, cholera, smallpox, poliomyelitis, scarlet fever, and HIV/AIDS. To honor the hospital's memory, we have established the AIDS Memorial Garden, a tranquil space for reflection and remembrance.
When it comes to sustenance, our on-site cafeteria, run by Mr. Tod, a premium hospitality group, offers delicious coffee and food. If you're looking for a cozy spot in winter or a lovely outdoor area in summer, the Yarra Edge Nursery Café is the perfect destination.
Don't miss out on the Gallery Space in Building B, where you can explore student exhibitions. Additionally, our Yarra Edge Music Centre hosts a variety of concerts for you to enjoy.
If you have a green thumb, our Horticulture Department sells plants at the Yarra Edge Nursery, where you can find leafy bargains. And if you have some spare time, take a stroll down to Station Street in Fairfield and immerse yourself in the vibrant village atmosphere, complete with cafes, shops, and an IGA supermarket.
Getting to our Fairfield campus is easy, thanks to Melbourne's excellent public transport network. Simply take the Route 86 tram to Clifton Hill Interchange and connect to a 250/251 bus that will bring you right to our doorstep.
Whether you're a prospective student or just curious about our campus, Melbourne Polytechnic's Fairfield Campus offers a unique blend of history, education, and natural beauty. Come and experience it for yourself!

"Screen and media is really really bad. Please go to Swinburne or RMIT instead of this place if you wanna do media."
"Would actually like to put in a formal complaint if I can find the time. Vet nursing cert 4 was an absolute joke. Firstly, they were so quick to take your money but the course had changed from what it previously was, which was 3-4 days on campus and they would find you work placement. It had gone almost entirely online, we had 1 day a week on campus for practicals (if we were lucky) but the course still cost as much AND you have to find ur own placement. There was no organisation and it was very much "we will just get that part done sometime before *insert deadline here*". Teachers sometimes get back to you, sometimes they forget entirely or answer 2 days later. I was diagnosed with a learning disorder while attending and was having a really hard time. Waited 3 months for the "student support" to contact me back and only after I made a face to face complaint to my teacher. Then, student services never did anything or followed up. Shortly after that, I received a threatening email from course co-ordinator that if I didn't pay my next fees, I would be unenrolled. I would have saved so much money and probably got the same amount of support, if not more, from an online course. Not to mention the effect on my mental health."
"Had applied an animal studies course 2-3 weeks before the course starts, at the end they called me saying the course is full just one day before the course starts. I should apply another institute if they can let me know earlier. Thanks so much and so disappointing. Not recommend!"
"Illustration: Some Teachers are really good and show professionalism teaching class work that is relevant and engaging to what is current. However there is one reoccurring teacher that lacks in all mentioned and is teaching outdated classes and just not understanding the students whatsoever always too busy to mark students work or email them, as they are teaching a handful of classes doing a class themselves and acting as a coordinator of sorts. --- PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS ONLY ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATION BACHELOR --- Update: Do not go here for illustration, the coordination of the whole course is off and completely disorganized, teachers hardly teach the classes and expect the students to just assume or guess what they are wanting from the teachers because the briefs are that vague. If you have any sort of medical written up report by the college themselves the teachers will ignore it or misunderstand what it actually entails "keeping it on the shelf" as stated by the coordinator instead of on the teachers person where they can read how to approach the student correctly and how to deliver their education to them. Their moodle system is the most time wasting device they have and is just an added layer of stress on top of an already filled timetable, it hardly does what it is meant to. Work life balance is never taken into account so students end up with severe burnout within the third week of each semester, it took a virus to point out the flaws in the delivery of their education, and still out of a handful of a teachers two rethought the workload dropped on students within a two/three week period. Overall there needs to be more structure between coordinator, staff and students because currently it's flying by the seat of it's pants. Complaints that are thrown at you at a week by week basis should not be resolved by oh just write it down and I will get to it. Medical plans NEED to be taken seriously and kept with the teacher and NOT on a shelf, the whole campus needs a stronger mental health service as I was told they are councilors that really don't have the training for students who face physical or mental breakdowns, they are not equipt nor do they have the staff numbers to facilitate the amount of students on campus. I will point out the lie given to me by the coordinator on the day I came for an interview "there is a psychiatrist who visits occasionally and there are full time psychologists" which was a complete lie all there is are three Councillors who work part time and it's weeks before you can even organised a meeting with them. It's overpriced for lack of education and lack of equipment at the college we are allowed to use, they expect every student ontop of their ridiculous fee price to go out and buy every art product know to man and to keep it all on you at all times which is just not physically possible. Only teachers who cared about students welfare as well as passions and tailored education to students professional directions were Rhiannon and Dean and both are excluded from all complaint."
"I currently attend animal studies and the teachers have been great, and all the animals are well taken care of. However, communication and organisation is all over the place. Both times enrolling for my courses has been a complete disaster on their part. Great campus, and lovely teachers. But organisation and communication really needs to be reexamined."
