L'Hotel Gitan

"Great night at L'Hotel Gitan and highly recommended! Service was excellent and the food more than hit the spot. Our party of 7 shared the charcuterie, duck liver parfait, steak tartare, broccoli and cheese croquette and duck cigar as starters to share. All of these were extremely appetizing and had the whole table wanting more. Table ordered mains of Duck, fish of the day, pork roast from the rotisserie and lamb special with green leaf salad, mixed greens, potato dauphinous and brussel sprouts. I would say the daily changing rotisserie is amongst the best value dishes in Melbourne. The pork roast was fantastic and the portion size was more than generous. Highly recommend L'Hotel Gitan and we will definitely be back!"

"What better way to celebrate my birthday than a lovely long lunch. I have been to L’Gitan more than 8 years ago and I recall enjoying it then. We ordered the grilled octopus, duck pate and scollops for entreee, steak and fish for main and baked meringue for dessert. Entrees and dessert were splendid but I was a bit disappointed with mains, it felt like the sauces were an afterthought and didn’t really compliment greatly. Will I go back, of course but my favourite amongst Frederic, L’Gitan and Bistro Gitan is definitely Bistro Gitan (and that brown butter pudding yumm!)."

"Went there with my partner and had the croquette and rockling colbert from express lunch’s menu, plus the risotto and dessert. Everything was beautifully made and very flavourful. I would buy a pot of the croquette and main’s dipping sauce if I could. The service was lovely as well. Great atmosphere for a date or a catch-up with friends."

"We visited L’Hotel Gitan for an utterly sensational perfectly cooked steak frites. I could not recommend it enough, absolutely delicious! Entrees and desserts were nice but the eye fillet was simply sublime. The venue itself was quite warm but perhaps because we were sitting next to the open kitchen where we could marvel at the steak cooking process. Pleasant atmosphere and faultless meat what more could you want from a Saturday night"

"TLDR; A decent steakhouse with room for improvement. L'Hotel Gitan is a great choice for steak lovers looking for a delicious meal at an affordable price. While the scotch fillet may have had a few chewy sections, it was still quite tasty and satisfying. The fries were perfectly crispy, though a bit too salty for some. Letting customers add salt at the table would be a simple solution. The onion rings were absolutely divine, and the bravette was cooked nicely, though perhaps a tad over-garnished. The staff were friendly, making the dining experience all the more enjoyable. While the flavor profile of the meat could have been stronger, a little bit of butter and sauce went a long way in elevating the dish. Additionally, the steak was allowed to rest a bit too long, causing the internal temperature to drop. Nevertheless, these minor issues didn't detract from the overall dining experience, which we rate a solid 8 out of 10. If you're in the mood for a satisfying and affordable steak dinner then pay this steak house a visit."
