"Reception team are an absolute nightmare to deal with. I have to call constantly chasing Medicare rebates and letters to my GP up to 5 times each time. We have a great psychiatrist but it’s not worth the hassle for the administration side of things."
"Expect to have your info & appointments sent to other patients. Expect to receive other random patient’s info and bookings. I’m not kidding. Despite of repeatedly bringing to staff attention they don’t listen and spew back generic “oh so sorry about that” reply. It happens again and again. They do not seem to care about patient confidentially . So just know that your information is not secure here and the admin do nothing to address it. Dr Brandon O Sullivan has been good. Note that a friend booked with another psychiatrist there who then left less than a month later without warning, despite taking on new patients. My friend then had to find a new one and repay the initial consult fee all over again at the same clinic. Be wary of who you book with and check that you won’t be scammed into getting a doctor who’s leaving only to repay the assessment. book at your own risk and know that your data isn’t secure and staff are aware but do not address it."
"This clinic is terrible. My psychiatrist left for overseas without notifying me, and the receptionist simply claimed that I was sent an email to inform me of this (no email received). I was then told I would have to have an initial consult and follow-up with another psychiatrist "as part of policy". This would equate to several months more of waiting without my prescription and another approximately $1k of expenses. The initial consult is about $700 on its own. The receptionist offerred no assistance whatsoever beyond relaying this information. This place is unbelievably poorly managed with negligent staff that lack empathy and have no sense of responsibility for their patients. STAY CLEAR."
"Disgraceful service and treatment of patients. Was informed that because my psychiatrist was leaving the clinic, I would have to pay for another initial consultation fee ($580 after Medicare rebate) and be re-assessed in order to maintain continuity of care. Would not confirm whether my psychiatrist would even transfer records before leaving - had to pay out-of-pocket to even get them sent to my GP. Prior to this, staff were unable to even organise another clinic psychiatrist to provide a bridging script when my appointment was deferred due to my psychiatrist's sick leave. The clinic claims this is because of "patient confidentiality" but also saw no issue with sending me my partner's appointment reminder email, including links to move or cancel the appointment, simply because we have the same surname. Clinic staff are uninformed, incompetent, rude, and cannot provide answers for basic questions. Callbacks by more senior staff are promised but never eventuate and have to be chased up. Care provided by my psychiatrist was adequate, but not worth the cost when coupled with having to deal with the reception team. Would rate zero stars if possible. Do not attend this clinic if you value your time or your mental health."
"Before I wrote this review, I went through other patients’ reviews, and it seems like people give either one star or five stars. I personally find this relatable, because I do have the classic black and white thinking. I have been under the care of Dr Charles for over 3 years, and I would like to write my review based on my whole experience with this clinic, and I will be reviewing this clinic from different aspects. To begin with, I am giving a 5 star review based on my personal experience, and I do understand that different patients will have different experiences, and I respect all reviews here as long as it’s honest and respectful. 1. My experience with Dr Charles. I will give 5 out 5 for the actual care I received from Dr Charles. I started seeing mental health professionals since I was a teen, and now I am 36, so I have seen quite a few and Dr Charles is the first doctor with whom I can maintain a long term doctor to patient relationship. Doctor Charles respects my preferred treatment, and offered different options of meds to suit my lifestyle and needs, and during the past three years, Dr Charles has always been professional and caring with me. Dr Charles also recommended a few good books to me, and after reading them, I now have a much deeper understanding of my issues, and my life quality and inner world have both been improving since I started see Dr Charles. When I first started seeing Dr Charles, I had been arrested once due to my rage issues, and Dr Charles kept me under his care regardless, which I do appreciate. Also from the beginning, Dr Charles pointed out that my issues are rooted in my trauma, and the label doesn’t matter that much, what really matters is to focus on treating the issues. I perfectly fit in many labels, such as BPD, bipolar, ADHD, major depression, anxiety, gender dysphasia, CPTSD and the list goes on. Dr Charles’ approach helped me focus on recovery instead of being identified as a label, and in retrospect I now think it’s a greatly helpful mindset. 2. The environment of the clinic. I would also give 5 out of 5. I have post photos of the waiting area, and you can see there are snacks and fidgeting toys, which is really nice to me. This setting makes me feel accepted. 3. I would also like to mention that with mental health issues, it is a journey, and it takes time to get the right help because it takes time for me to realised what is “wrong” with me before I can discuss my issues with the professionals. I have a list of issues including substance use, reckless behaviours and gender related issues. Sometimes I do feel that it would be nice if I can visit a doctor once and all my issues will be gone, but we all know with long term mental problems, it will take time to heal. The way I work with Dr Charles is that I will study the books he recommends to me so I can better understand myself on a holistic level, and I will take my notes to his office and inform him about my improvements and goals so he can help me to recover get my life better. In conclusion, my personal experience with Dr Charles has been smooth and my life has been getting better over the past three years. I have notices that in others’ reviews, there are some complaints about receiving prescriptions and updates. I personally did not have experience any of that, and I do feel sorry for patients who did. I have been lucky, and the clinic did proactively reach out to me to let me know if there was an early spot available. Having said that, I can understand bad experiences do happen with any practices, and when it happens, we can feel it sucks so much. I hope my review will help, and I hope we all have good mental health. Happy recovery everyone."
