Led by Maarit Rivers, a highly experienced creative arts therapist and supervisor, our institution has been serving the Northern Beaches community since 2011. With a background as a Student Welfare Officer at Stewart House School in Sydney, Maarit has extensive experience in supporting individuals in their spiritual, social, and emotional well-being.

Prior to her work in Sydney, Maarit worked as a counsellor in various settings in Broome, including a regional prison, women's refuge, and drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. She also has experience working as a therapist for children and teenagers, both privately and in institutional settings.

At Maarit Rivers Counselling & Therapy, we understand that uncertainty can be challenging to navigate. Whether it's in your personal relationships, work, or health, we are here to help you master uncertainty and gain clarity. Our goal is to lift the veil of depression, anxiety, worry, or past trauma, and guide you towards a sense of well-being and joy.

We offer a variety of therapeutic approaches to cater to your unique needs. In sandplay therapy, clients have the opportunity to create a physical representation of their imagined world using a sandtray and miniature objects. This process allows inner feelings to become visible, leading to healing and growth.

For those who prefer a more artistic approach, we offer art therapy. Through drawing, painting, and sculpture, clients can express themselves and explore their emotions in a supportive environment. The emphasis is on the creative process rather than the end result, providing a supervised release and therapeutic benefits.

If you prefer traditional talk therapy, we also offer the option to untangle the threads of your life story and put them into a coherent narrative. You can choose to solely engage in talking therapy or combine it with creative activities to enhance your therapeutic experience.

For children, we provide play therapy, where their experiences, knowledge, and anxieties are revealed through play. Using musical instruments, balls, puppets, and both indoor and outdoor areas, our therapists create a safe and nurturing space for children to express themselves and work through their challenges.
