Reviews of Royal Hospital for Women
"Fertility center has been an extremely terrifying experience for me. The poor management were incredibly frustrating. Despite ongoing bleeding since I began IVF, they simply referred me to a GP and said "your bleeding isn't our responsibility." Communication with the nurse was a nightmare. I found myself repeatedly try to contact the doctor but I can not. Two weeks later, I only receiveed the disappointing phone call from Dr that 'Your hormones are low, your IVF is canceled.' I had never heard IVF can be canceled one day but it happend to me. However, my primary concern was my bleeding. I bled for two weeks. One day later from that cancle call, I fainted out with vomiting at home. I had to call an ambulance, and I went to Royal Hospital emergency room. My hemoglobin was critically low at 67 (normal is 120). I received two units of blood transfusion, which brought it up to 84 but still not safe. Shockingly, I was discharged just a day later with this condition. Now, I find myself steal bleeding and seriously considering going to RPA Hospital instead of dealing with the frustration I've experienced here. The clinic seems to have a lack of empathy or concern for my well-being. I tried to report my condition during IVF but the doctor (who I had never seen during the two-week IVF process, cancled my IVF and also discharged me from hospital) dismissed it without truly understanding my situation. Even I sent her an email why I had to pause the IVF, but when I saw her for the first time in the emergency room, she simply said, "It wasn't wrong to cancel your IVF. Look how weak you are. You don't agree become a pregnant with this condition right?" They has left me feeling abandoned and frustrated. It feels like a complete waste of time."
"Couldn’t fault my experience giving birth at the Royal. Felt very well taken care of during my pregnancy, labour and birth and especially so with complications post-delivery. Staff are knowledgeable and demonstrate compassion towards patients and I would happily return in the future if needed."
"Had my doctor refer me for antenatal care planning with Dr Beech to assess a chronic heart condition. Sadly, Dr Beech must've been fully booked, as I was shuffled into an appointment with Dr Sandra Lowe. Her haughty, condescending, abrupt and dismissive communication style was a shock, and needlessly unpleasant. She met my questions with thinly-veiled annoyance and disdain. If you are after a medical professional who genuinely wants to help their patients and answer your concerns, and isn't into power tripping and talking down at you, I'd recommend seeking another specialist to care for you throughout your pregnancy journey. Perhaps Dr Beech, as my doctor specifically recommended her out of all the specialists at Royal Hospital for Women."
"The birth of our daughter wasn’t straight forward but the staff (reception, midwifes, nurses and doctors) all had my wife’s and daughter’s best interests at heart throughout. Everything was explained appropriately, the choices made were ours to make based on accurate information and ultimately our daughter was born with numerous care providers working in an extremely attentive and professional manner. Recovery was equally excellent. We stayed in hospital for 3 days after and the advice from the midwives on how to care for our daughter was amazing. We learnt so much in such a short space of time and nothing was too much for them. If we needed anything, they were always there ready to provide! (On a side note: It frustrates me that people write 1 star reviews without contemplating the fact that medical professionals desperately want people to remain as safe as possible at all times. I understand that mothers have birth plans but sometimes it isn’t appropriate to follow what you ‘want’ to happen. The advice given is because the doctors, nurses and midwives (with vast experience) want you to be safe. To assume you know better than people who have trained for decades is extremely arrogant! Secondly, giving a 1 star review based on a specific individual or because someone was rude to you once, or parking for vehicles over 2m isn’t provided are terrible reasons for a 1 star. Be assured that the MEDICAL CARE at RHW is second to none!)"
