Reviews
"Great selection and helpful advice"
"Very friendly and open late"
"Okay selection of wines but don't expect any great assistance when trying to make a decision."
"Versatile 'small' outlet. They stock lesser brands not generally available from the usual retailers, which is always a better browsing experience."
"Warning! Warning! To any prospective patrons of this business, if paying by cash confirm you have been given correct change, if an Eftpos transaction check transaction details. I recently purchased a house quite literally around the corner from Smith Street Cellars, and as a supporter of independent retailers’ was hoping they would provide a fine purchasing experience. Alas, this was not to be. This liquor outlet appears to have a policy of shortchanging. And, when challenged act in an extraordinarily hostile manner. Seems to me, by their very passive/aggressive response they consider this to be an intrinsic element o f doing business in the area. I suspect the proprietor is an ex- Police Officer, this assumption is based upon his reaction when staff are caught shamelessly stealing from customers’. My recommendation is to avoid this place unless absolutely necessary. BWS are 150 meters further north, alternatively there is a similar business on Brunswick Street. I’m thinking perhaps a little business disruption, like an ATO audit. Maybe, visits from Fair Work, Licensing, Consumer Affairs and Health will disabuse them of the notion: “It’s OK to steal from customers’, just don’t get caught”"
