John Wearn Reserve 21Z Farnell Avenue, Carlingford, New South Wales 2118
About the Business
Welcome to John Wearn Reserve, a hidden gem located in Carlingford, Australia. Situated at 21Z Farnell Avenue, this establishment is not only a park but also a point of interest and a popular tourist attraction.
John Wearn Reserve is part of the larger North Rocks Park Precinct, which was developed by the City of Parramatta. This masterplan encompasses the entire park precinct, including the buildings, parkland, sports fields, and community facilities. The project was funded by the NSW State Government under the Stronger Communities Fund.
When you visit John Wearn Reserve, you'll be greeted with a plethora of amenities and facilities to cater to all ages. The Safari-themed playground is perfect for children to let their imaginations run wild, while the dog park allows furry friends to socialize and play freely. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy the multicourt, fitness equipment, and skate park, while those seeking relaxation can unwind in the amphitheater or take a leisurely walk along the circuit bike/walking tracks.
The reserve spans over 2.4 hectares and offers a range of activities and facilities. From BBQ and picnic areas to basketball/netball practice hoops, there is something for everyone. Additionally, the North Rocks Child Care Centre operates within the reserve, providing a convenient option for parents.
Adjacent to John Wearn Reserve is North Rocks Park, a vast area spanning 7.4 hectares. This park incorporates Crown Land reserved for public recreation as well as community land classified as 'bushland' and 'park'. It is a cherished community asset, featuring the Senior Citizens Centre, North Rocks Tennis Courts, and the Don Moore Community Centre. The park also boasts a sportsground, cricket nets, walking paths, and a playground. Recently, a childcare center was added to further enhance the park's offerings.
The City of Parramatta Council has actively engaged with the community to gather feedback and suggestions for improving the Park Precinct. With around 200 participants in the initial round of engagement, it is evident that the community values the current facilities but also desires further enhancements to meet their evolving needs.
While North Rocks Park may be more well-known than John Wearn Reserve, both areas are appreciated for their versatility and diversity. The community has expressed a desire to see these qualities strengthened in the future, with a particular focus on improving facilities for youth.
As construction nears completion at John Wearn Reserve, exciting additions such as custom picnic shelters, BBQs, drinking fountains, and bins are being installed. The park will also see the planting of numerous trees and groundcover plants, adding to its natural beauty. However, please note that the site remains an active construction zone and is currently not open to the public.
The contractor has made significant progress in various aspects of the park, including the amenities building, fitness equipment, concrete paths, retaining walls, and multi-use courts. The playground features an array of play equipment, ensuring hours of fun for children of all ages.
Furthermore, the lighting at North Rocks Park has undergone a major upgrade, thanks to funding from the NSW Government's Stronger Communities Fund. The new metal LED lighting poles, operated by a smartphone app, provide optimal illumination for sporting activities at either 50 lux or 100 lux.
As we enjoy the beauty and recreational opportunities offered by John Wearn Reserve and North Rocks Park, let us also acknowledge and pay respect to the Dharug people, the traditional custodians of the land. We honor and extend our respect to the elders, both past and present, and to all Aboriginal visitors to this site.
Come and experience the wonders of John Wearn Reserve and North Rocks Park. Whether you're seeking adventure, relaxation, or a place to connect with nature, these parklands have something for everyone.
