About Red Hands Cave walking track - Blue Mountains National Park
Welcome to the Red Hands Cave walking track in Blue Mountains National Park, a must-visit tourist attraction located near Glenbrook in Australia. This establishment offers an unforgettable experience of Aboriginal stencil art, picnicking, and birdwatching amidst the stunning natural beauty of the park.
As you embark on this journey, you will be following a track that has likely been used by Aboriginal people for thousands of years. Immerse yourself in their ancient footsteps and discover one of the most impressive Aboriginal stencil galleries in the Sydney Basin.
Starting from Glenbrook Causeway, the medium-difficulty track leads you along Campfire Creek, where you can observe axe grinding grooves on the water's edge. Keep an eye out for eastern water dragons basking in the sun as you make your way through the gully. Eventually, you will reach the breathtaking sandstone overhang of Red Hands Cave.
While enjoying a picnic lunch surrounded by unspoilt bushland, you will be serenaded by the delightful sounds of rainbow lorikeets and gang gangs overhead. Afterward, you can either retrace your steps or continue on the longer loop walk. If you're in the mood for a refreshing swim, you can even detour via the swimming holes along the Blue Pool walking track.
For those who can't personally visit the track just yet, we have a virtual tour available, captured with Google Street View Trekker. This allows you to get a sneak peek of the incredible landscapes and natural wonders before embarking on your own adventure.
Additionally, if you're planning a visit, you can hire a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) for free at the Blue Mountains Heritage Centre in Blackheath, ensuring your safety throughout your exploration.
We are also proud to introduce our Bush Trackers program, designed to engage children with the environment in and around the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage area. Through education initiatives and guided bushwalks, this program highlights the natural and cultural splendor of the greater Blue Mountains.
At Red Hands Cave walking track, you will not only witness the beauty of nature but also immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of the Aboriginal people. So, come and experience this unique and captivating journey through history and nature in the heart of Blue Mountains National Park.

Reviews of Red Hands Cave walking track - Blue Mountains National Park
"Stunning forest which is either a 2 hour loop from here or a 1 hour - 1 hour 30 of moderating hiking if you drive up to the carpark. And for those who really don’t want a hike, you can get to the cave within about 10 minutes of the carpark."
"Really good if it’s okay to cross the flooded road or there’s no flooding. We waded ankle deep across the road and got past it no problem and enjoyed a very relaxing walk with no one else on the trail. Only thing is one of us caught a leech on the last lag of the return. The red hands cave was very cool and looks like there’s a pretty active wombat community along the trail based on the left behinds we saw!"
"Fantastic walk in the beautiful Blue Mountains. It’s was an easy walk with just a little rock hopping. Stairs carved into rocks plus lots of timber steps built in. The track follows the creek & is mostly shaded. While it’s not hard you will need to be reasonably fit. The walk up from the causeway is on the steep hairpin bends."
"Great little walk around the lower mountains national Park. At a brisk pace with just a light pack you could do the return trip in 2 hours, including a stop at the amazing Red hand rock painting cave."
"Best time of the year to walk / run this track is the cooler months, I used this track as part of my trail run today, the creek has running water in it at the moment, conditions are cool, not cold, track condition is excellent. This is a great walk / run, be sure to bring water with you, good set of walking or running shoes with good grip."
