SANSKRITI-A SCHOOL OF INDIAN PERFORMING ARTS
About the Business
Welcome to Sanskriti-A School of Indian Performing Arts, located in the beautiful city of Sydney, Australia. Founded by the talented creative director Sakshi Kumar, this institution is dedicated to promoting and preserving the rich heritage of Indian performing arts.
Sakshi Kumar, a Mathematics graduate from Jesus and Mary College in New Delhi, is a highly trained Kathak dancer. She honed her skills under the tutelage of Pt. Jai Kishan Maharaj, son of the legendary Pt. Birju Maharaj, at the prestigious Kathak Kendra in New Delhi. With a passion for dance that started at a young age, Sakshi has become a top performer and a graded artist of Doordarshan. She has also had the honor of being a Cultural Ambassador of India to Kyrgyzstan through ICCR, working with the Embassy of India in Bishkek.
Complementing Sakshi's expertise is her husband, Suresh Kumar, a dynamic Mayurbhanj Chhau exponent and choreographer. Trained by Guru J.J. Sai Babu, Suresh has also studied Kathakali under Guru Sh. Jagadeesan Nair Thiruvattar at The International Centre for Kathakali in New Delhi. With his extensive experience in both traditional and contemporary dance styles, Suresh has captivated audiences in India and abroad.
At Sanskriti-A School of Indian Performing Arts, students have the opportunity to learn from these exceptional artists and immerse themselves in the vibrant world of Indian dance. Sakshi and Suresh recently collaborated on a production called 'JUGALBANDI', a unique fusion of Kathak and Chhau, showcasing their immense talent and creativity.
Sakshi's dedication to promoting Indian culture extends beyond the borders of Australia. During her time in Kyrgyzstan, she taught in various dance schools and left a lasting impact on over a hundred students. Her students performed at events organized by the Embassy of India and other cultural gatherings, spreading the beauty of Indian dance throughout the country.
Don't just take our word for it, hear what our students have to say. Nithya Yuvraj, a student who has been learning Kathak from Sakshi for the past year, expresses her enjoyment and admiration for Sakshi's dedication. Lalini Desilva commends Sakshi's professionalism, commitment, and patience in teaching students of all ages.
