Welcome to Goshukan Karate Academy Liverpool, located at Moorebank, Field Close, 1. As an establishment, health, and point of interest institution, we believe that karate is more than just a self-defense fighting system. It is a way of life. Our aim is to teach this martial art to build strength in both mind and body, with the hope that our students will never have to use the physical component of the art to defend themselves.

Consistent training in karate can develop strength of mind, body, and spirit. By honing fighting skills, our students build confidence, inner security, awareness, and respect for themselves and others. Karate training goes beyond physical abilities; it builds character and teaches life skills that help overcome challenges, solve problems, and strive for excellence.

At Goshukan Karate Academy Liverpool, we believe that karate is a personal endeavor. Every student is encouraged to participate at their own pace, with no expectation of fitness or ability. If you can walk onto the mats, you can train in martial arts! We have had people start training well into their 50s and even 60s!

We understand the importance of family involvement, and we offer options to get the whole family, including parents and kids of all ages, involved without multiple trips. Our family class allows parents to train in the same class as their kids, completing part of the class individually and the other part together.

Class sizes may vary depending on the program and peak times. However, we always abide by recommended instructor ratios to ensure quality training. For kids classes, the ratio is 15:1, and for general classes, it is usually 20:1.

Achieving a black belt in karate takes approximately 4-5 years, depending on the frequency of training and commitment to improvement. We believe in recognizing the experience level of individuals who have trained in a Goju based karate system. We allow them to train in their current grade belt until they are ready to be assessed and formally graded in Goshukan Karate. Just like transferring credits when moving from one course to another in tertiary education, we assess each person based on their own merits and training history.

Goshukan Karate Academy is a member of Seiwakai Goju Ryu, which is part of the Japan Karate Federation. Established in 1964, the Japan Karate-do Federation oversees all styles of traditional Japanese Karate and is led by a member of the Cabinet selected by Japan's Prime Minister. The majority of traditional Goju Ryu organizations, including ours, are members of the JKF Goju Kai, aiming to preserve and perpetuate the style of karate developed by Mr. Chojun Miyagi in Okinawa, Japan.
