About Sydney Southeast Asia Centre
Welcome to the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre, located in the vibrant City of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. As an establishment, point of interest, school, and university, we are dedicated to fostering collaboration and partnerships between researchers and practitioners working on critical real-world issues in Southeast Asia.
Australia and Southeast Asia share a special relationship, one that we deeply value and actively work to strengthen. Our researchers are at the forefront, immersing themselves in the fields, classrooms, and labs across the region to make a real difference. From business to education, health, law, and veterinary science, we are ensuring that Australia and Southeast Asia develop together to face the challenges of the 21st century.
Our approach is innovative and reflects the rich diversity and growing importance of Southeast Asia in the world's geopolitical landscape. We focus on key areas such as economic and social reform, infectious diseases, and the environment. By informing decisions in government, industry, and the wider community, our work has a tangible impact and contributes to the development of the region.
One of our notable achievements is the 2023 New Colombo Plan (NCP) Scholarship, which includes 150 scholars, including five students from the University of Sydney. This is the largest cohort of scholars to travel to the Indo-Pacific, showcasing our commitment to fostering educational opportunities and cultural exchange.
In addition, we are proud to host the 6th Conference on Human Rights, providing a platform for academics, human rights activists, and practitioners to explore current human rights issues in Southeast Asia and beyond. This conference serves as a valuable opportunity for knowledge sharing and collaboration.
At the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre, we also recognize and acknowledge the traditional custodianship and law of the Country on which the University of Sydney campuses stand. We pay our respects to those who have cared for and continue to care for Country.
Join us in our mission to strengthen the relationship between Australia and Southeast Asia, as we work towards a shared future of prosperity and collaboration.
