About Sydney Girls High School
Welcome to Sydney Girls High School, the oldest state girls school in New South Wales. Located in the vibrant neighborhood of Surry Hills, right in the heart of the beautiful Centennial Parklands, our school has been providing exceptional education since 1883.
As an academically selective institution, Sydney Girls High School attracts students from all areas of Sydney, making our drawing area extensive and diverse. Our students consistently achieve outstanding results in academic, sporting, cultural, and creative endeavors, often reaching national and international levels of recognition.
At Sydney Girls High School, we pride ourselves on our excellent resources and our commitment to staying at the forefront of technology initiatives. Our extensive network system provides our students with access to electronic resources, ensuring they have the tools they need for a quality education.
We have a strong focus on nurturing and supporting gifted girls, providing them with numerous opportunities to excel. Our school culture fosters high expectations and encourages intellectual risk-taking in a safe and caring environment.
We understand that the period leading up to HSC exams can be stressful for students and their families. That's why we offer comprehensive support and guidance during this crucial time, ensuring our students are well-prepared and confident.
Education Week is an important annual celebration for us, where we recognize and honor the achievements of our schools, teachers, and students. It is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire school community.
We value the input and feedback of our parents and carers, which is why we encourage them to share their thoughts and ideas through the Department of Education's draft plan for NSW public education. This ensures that we continue to provide the best possible education for our students.

Reviews of Sydney Girls High School
"Westernised as hell with stigma against overly Asian second-gen migrants, that would otherwise have a segue into a bright prospective future. And gasp - their curriculum teaches Japanese and Chinese, which should border on rich cultural experiences for an Asian mindset, but it is quite the contrary."
"Came here to give the mandatory SBHS "stop stealing our food" message even though I don't eat canteent stuff"
"this school is good and Mr Jones makes it better. I love walking into math classes knowing he will passionately teach us with a smile and is always happy to help with any questions even if it comes from tutoring. You can tell he is fervent in math and teaching. He is a very kind person and I love his iPad system because it looks so neat all the time and I also find it more interactive. Even when I walk in the hallway he is always eager to talk even if it isn't math because he's so nice. I've been taught by him since he came and i seen him become more confident in teaching, and I know he will only continue to become a better and best teacher."
"okay, so yes, the classrooms are somewhat old (but some are blue with fancy white ceilings and are pretty nice) and the bathrooms too. we also do not talk abt the junior uniforms....(stuffy tunics) but, it's a pretty good school, and there are HEAPS of curriculars. rowing, fencing, debating (highly valued here), public speaking, drama, basketball, volleyball, netball- you name it- is here. there are also heaps of clubs! abt debating- we do premier's debating college as well as eastside. in eastside, we go against other prestige sydney schools (such as sydney grammar, sbhs, knox grammar, etc the teachers are pretty good, too the only thing is that the five minute break in between period two and three is literally no help because it's over by the time we get to our next class, so please, on the behalf of everyone else, extend thisss oh, yeah, starting year 7, you have to do two languages. they can a a combination of Latin, French, Chinese and Japanese (you have to put them in order of preference) I'm doing 2 languages atm You can drop these languages (i think in yr 9 though) anyway, pretty good school if you're worrying abt travel, I travel about 1 1/2 hours, and trust me, it gets a bit easier, don't stress would recommend moving before yr 10 tho, so that it doesn't get in the way of HSC stuff would totally recommend this school"
"super cool school apart from a few teachers, we get way less funding than sb but we don’t spend it all on sports. some corridors are mouldy and the canteen charges way too much. great school though with good classes, the rivalry with sb gets a bit out of hand sometimes"
