About the Business
Welcome to Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School, located at 44 Kiora Road in Miranda, Australia. As an establishment and point of interest, we are proud to be a leading primary school in the Southern Sydney area.
At Our Lady Star of the Sea, we prioritize engaging our students fully, ensuring they are happy and excited to come to school. Our dedicated and experienced teachers work together as a team to ensure that every child is known and provided with a wide range of academic and co-curricular opportunities to help them flourish and grow.
We strongly believe in building strong relationships with parents, the community, and the parish. This collaboration ensures that everyone is involved and invested in the development of well-rounded and resilient learners who will make a positive impact on the world around them.
Our school is nestled in the beautiful suburbia of Southern Sydney, creating a friendly and welcoming community that is deeply connected to the parish. In our happy and interactive classrooms, children are encouraged to strive for excellence in all areas of the curriculum.
At Our Lady Star of the Sea, we aim to provide a contemporary Catholic education that caters to the diverse needs of our students. We place great importance on developing highly literate and numerate students. Our specialized teachers in Music, E-learning, Reading Recovery, and P.E. ensure skill development in reading, 21st Century skills, ICT, performing arts, gymnastics, music, game skills, and swimming.
In addition to academic excellence, we offer numerous opportunities for our students to grow and succeed. From sport gala days and chess tournaments to inter-school debating, public speaking, student leadership programs, community engagement, and social justice initiatives, our students are encouraged to explore their interests and talents. Our primary students are also given opportunities to participate in representative sport.
Our school has a rich history, having opened its doors in January 1950 with just 28 pupils in Miranda church-hall. Over the years, we have undergone refurbishments and expansions, including the completion of a library extension, a new multi-purpose room, and a Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA) with a rubber surface.
The community of Our Lady Star of the Sea Miranda is vibrant and welcoming. We encourage parents, grandparents, and other community members to get involved in the life of the school through various activities. Additionally, we are committed to supporting those in need within our local community.
Father John Greig, the Parish Priest of Miranda and Sylvania, is a valued supporter of our school. He works closely with our teaching staff to plan class and whole school Masses, fostering a strong spiritual foundation for our students.
As part of the Sydney Catholic Schools system, we are proud to be part of a network of over 150 low-fee Catholic schools in the Sydney Archdiocese. Reviews
"This school talks about love but they don’t show it and the teachers don’t care about the students and they show no remorse. Teachers made us students feel hated and left out because of the way they treated us they favored students who were popular and smart but none of the other kids were important to them. The teachers were rude and not helpful if u were to ask kids from last years year 6 how they think of the teachers and school all you will get is bad comments. Parents dont know how teachers treat the kids because when parents come in to talk with teachers the teachers act totally different. If your planning on sending your kids to our lady star of the sea think twice because they will make life hard for everyone."
"bad x"
"The school is constantly inundated with hateful vote no signs for the marriage equality debate! A school which is meant to care for and look after our children would instead prefer to preach hate! Must be very hard for kids with LGBTI family members, or kids who are dealing with their own sexuality to see! They also use their parish to hold vote no conferences! A very disappointing thing to have to see in this day and age. Put the children first for once!"
"Very helpful parish"
