About the Business
Welcome to The Common Good, a local institution located at Hawthorn, Burwood Road, 394 in Australia. Since 2013, we have been owned by locals who are dedicated to ethical and fair trade practices in the wholefood industry.
At The Common Good, we believe that giving the gift of beautiful food and household wares is a meaningful and waste-free way to show gratitude, well wishes, and love to others. Whether you need a corporate hamper, birthday gift, care package, new parent bundle, or just a gesture of kindness, we are experienced in creating the perfect package for you.
Our individually curated gift boxes, wooden crates filled with seasonal produce and local goods, and beautiful basket hampers are brimming with artisanal delights from near and far. Get in touch with us and let us help you create a thoughtful and unique gift.
We are excited to introduce our latest addition to our shelves - beautiful, provenance-filled cordials from Natasha's home in Daylesford. Handmade with seasonal and locally grown produce, these cordials are the perfect accompaniment to ice cream, yogurt, prosecco, sparkling water, baking, and more. Let your creativity run wild with these versatile cordials.
For almost the entire duration of our store's existence, we have partnered with Emma and Damien, who have built a beautiful, sustainable, and ethical brand of teas. We stock their full range and are inspired by their business ethics.
Our focus has shifted to pre-packed bulk goods, including organic and often biodynamic (Demeter certified) products. We believe this is an environmentally responsible way for people to purchase staples, as our packaging is reusable, recyclable, and compostable. By purchasing directly from producers in large volumes, we are able to offer more affordable prices to our customers while minimizing the supply chain. It's just us between the maker and the consumer.
Owning The Common Good store has been a long journey for us - a husband, wife, and two young team members. We juggle going to markets, dealing with growers, farmers, and suppliers, and getting to know the people and companies behind the products we sell. Our goal is to reintroduce people to shopping locally, eating organically and sustainably, and fostering a conversation about ethical living and integrity-based business.
This is our first business, built on a passion for mainstreaming ethical consumption and empowering people to make conscious decisions. In our store, you won't find yourself mindlessly filling your cart because three is cheaper than two when you only need one. We believe in building a business by giving generously and recognizing that the most important thing you can do for your children is feed them well, every single time.
We are grateful that people have many options for where they spend their money, and we appreciate each time someone chooses our store. Visit The Common Good and experience the difference of a store dedicated to ethical, sustainable, and conscious living.

"Really cool place for organic food plus they have some cool vegan products! Friendly customer service and a nice variety of things offered. A little on the expensive side but that's to be expected. I really wanted to bring the ice cream home but live a little too far to toss the dice on that! Nice little organic grocery shop, would come by again if I was in the area. 1% surcharge on card."
"Variety of ethically sourced products. There’s a little plant room up the stairs. Friendly staff."
"This is what I wish all supermarkets were like. These are people who actually care about the origins of the goods they sell and the people that produced them. They make every effort to connect the customer to the story of the food their consuming and they sell only the best organic produce on offer. Their bulk goods are well priced and their service is top notch. Highly recommended making this your new local ethical grocer."
"Great experience! Such a variety of products. I don't think it is more expensive than other places, at least for the thinks I usually buy. Fruits and vegetables were normal price and so fresh! They are also in the zero waste movement and I found bee wraps for cheaper than anywhere else. Can't wait for them to keep going in this direction and maybe having some bulk for dry goods..."
"It's great to know that all the research into the ethical nature of all the products in the store has already been done by Meneka and her team. Which means I don't have to think about it, I just buy what I need and I know it's the best and most ethical I can get. Yes you pay a premium for such a privilege, but this is the food that I put in mine and my family's mouth and I don't want to compromise their health to save a few bucks... The store is packed with everything we need to run our household and the variety is just amazing... highly recommended..."
