Reviews of Omela Cafe
"First time visiting and tried the nasi kerabu with curry chicken. Rice with rendeng lamb and sweet chilli chicken. Strong flavours and pretty good overall."
"Unsuspecting original Malay restaurant you might easily walk by so I'm glad we found it ! The lady that served us was so friendly, the food was great esp the chicken tom yum soup and the rotis. The red beef fried rice was a bit on the salty side for us so we matched it up with the roti. Between 2 people we feasted with only about a $60 bill with 3 dishes - 1 rice, 1 noodle, 1 soup - then 1 roti plate & coffee each. Couldnt finish it all but great to have tried a bit of everything!"
"First time here. We had the lamb rendang, asam pedas sting ray and the stir fried eggplant. The flavors were spot on however they used too much oil in the veg dish. Would definitely come back and try more!"
"We waited a while on a busy Saturday night but needn’t have worried. It was amazing. I’ve never had Char Koay Teow in a sauce like this but wow it was best in show. The chicken soup blew our minds it was full of lemon goodness. The side omelette was terrific too. Fanatical Value $13 for the CKT, about $12 for the soup and $5 for the omelette. We will be back. This is authentic Malaysian food at its best. Don’t let the service and exit out you off. This is legit!"
"Another great Malay food option in Marrickville. There's an ala carte menu and hot food bar available. Loved the nasi kerabu and we swapped the fried chicken with the ayam percik for extra cost - worth it. The ikan asam pedas (spicy sour fish) was also delish, using stingray as they do in Malaysia. There are clear boxes of colourful desserts at the counter. I couldn't resist the kuih ketayap, thin crepes filled with coconut & palm sugar mixture. Perfect palate cleanser. Super friendly service, the staff are happy to answer any questions about the food. Atmosphere is pretty basic and tbh, could do with more frequent table cleanups, but I'm willing to overlook it as the food hits the spot."
