Cameragal Montessori School - Primary School
About the Business
Welcome to Cameragal Montessori School, located in North Sydney on Miller Street. As the only NESA registered Montessori school on the lower north shore, we offer education for children from 0-12 years old. With over 40 years of experience, we are proud of our heritage in supporting children to reach their full potential in both learning and life.
At Cameragal Montessori, we follow the NSW Department of Education's strict curriculum, ensuring that your child receives a well-rounded education. However, what sets us apart is our Montessori approach, which captures the passion and joy for learning unlike any other education system. We believe that the first twelve years of life are crucial for learning, as children absorb, develop, and explore during this time, forming attitudes and patterns of learning that last a lifetime.
As a pre-school, kindergarten, and primary school, we are accredited under the NSW Education Standards Authority and the Early Childhood Education and Care Framework. While we adhere to the ideals of Dr. Maria Montessori, we also incorporate thoughtful updates that reflect the needs of modern children and the requirements of the Australian and New South Wales Governments.
Our primary goal is to provide each child with an empowering environment where they can develop the skills and habits necessary for a lifetime of learning and happiness. We offer a range of programs, including our Playroom for toddlers aged 0-3, where they can explore movement, speech, focus, independence, and confidence.
By enrolling your child at Cameragal Montessori, you are ensuring that their first experiences with education build their confidence, expand their sense of self, and lay the foundation for a rich and rewarding life. Our graduates transition to mainstream high school with ease, as they are not only academically equipped but also possess a lifelong love of learning that fills them with the confidence to achieve anything they want.
We understand that you may have some questions about our school. Rest assured, we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions that other parents have asked. Yes, Cameragal Montessori will prepare your child for mainstream high school, as our students often experience less "cultural shock" and have high academic standards. Yes, we follow the NSW State Government academic program, individualizing the content for each child based on their academic level and learning style.
Lastly, we would like to acknowledge and respect the Cammeraygal people as the First Peoples and Traditional Custodians of the land on which our school stands. We pay our respects to their Elders, both past and present, and recognize their continuous connection to the Country.

"All three of my children have attended this school and we could not have asked for a better educational experience for them. My oldest was here from the age of 3 until 12; she is now thriving in high school, thanks to the academic skills, love of learning, independence and sense of personal responsibility which she gained from her time at Cameragal Montessori. It's a small, caring school with outstanding teachers who really know the children individually. Throughout their time at the school, wonderful teachers have guided our children to discover their interests and passions, to take responsibility for their own learning, and in the process to develop critical life skills of decision-making, time management, project planning and conflict management. Students are not ‘spoon fed’ information to repeat in tests: they must research and discover themselves. This is done partly with traditional research tools (books, models, encyclopedias), but also with tangible materials that brilliantly illuminate difficult concepts, particularly in the field of maths. At the same time, rules and routines maintain the order necessary for children to have this intellectual freedom. In the 6-9 classroom, for example, students must work on memorisation of maths facts (time tables, for example) every day. Regular one-on-one conferences with teachers allow children to report on what they have done and what they would like to do, and allow teachers to guide them in ways that cover the curriculum while following their interests. Learning in this environment, our children have amazed us. They have built working models of the human digestive system from recycling materials; they can calculate the square roots of large numbers using a peg board; they have produced a play demonstrating the different states of water and the cycle of water through the environment. No teacher has told them to do any of these things: they have chosen to do them and have executed these projects themselves, with teachers as guides. In short, I highly recommend this school and the educational experience it offers."
"We have been part of the school for almost 10 years and have seen our kids grow and thrive in an environment which really nurtures their uniqueness and strengths. The academic experience is robust but the school provides so much more than that… I love how our kids are applying what they learn in cross disciplinary ways (e.g., cooking lunch for each other as a way to practice maths and celebrate culture) and how they take ownership of their work (e.g., through weekly conferences where they present their progress and questions to teachers). The Montessori method also has beautiful processes to help kids resolve their own conflicts with care and confidence. These are skills for life. Not only have our kids made wonderful friends - as parents, we have also developed a supportive and fun community!"
"A true Montessori school with excellent teacher ratios within a very structured and calm classroom environment. My two children are totally inspired and loving learning at their own pace with tailored lesson plans to suit each child and access to special Montessori learning materials that are designed to stimulate logical thought and independent discovery. They are supported in pursuing areas of interest beyond the curriculum requirements which enhances their sense of self and achievement. The whole child is nurtured and there is an excellent supportive school community."
"The school's dedication to providing an authentic Montessori education was our deciding factor. The teachers and assistants' genuine care and focus on our child's overall development have been instrumental in helping her unlock her true potential. If you are seeking a genuine Montessori experience that fosters a nurturing and supportive environment for your child, we wholeheartedly recommend Cameragal Montessori School. ^_______^"
