At Reddam House Sydney, we believe in igniting passion in our students and unlocking their innate potential. Our education program is designed to engage students in a multidisciplinary immersion across various curriculums, all within a non-denominational setting. We understand that every student has different strengths and interests, and we strive to cater to their individual needs.
With two campuses, we cater to students from the Early Learning School to Year 9, nestled in the leafy heart of Woollahra, and Year 10 to Year 12 in the picturesque seaside setting of Bondi Beach. At each stage of their learning journey, our students receive careful nurturing, support, and advice to ensure their academic and personal growth.
What sets us apart is our fresh and contemporary approach to education. "Kid tried to drown me and I nearly died in water polo and he didnt get punished, even though he grabbed around the neck and strangled me. Entitled eastern suburbs kids, who can avoid the law just because they have money"
"I am not a teacher - just a parent whose child has attended Reddam from age 3 until Y12. The philosophy of the school is that they practice a growth mindset with a strong focus on creating a love of learning through connection with each and every teacher. The pedagogy is to ensure that the learning gap does not get too wide for that is when you will find misbehaviour in the classroom due to the child being unable to follow the teacher. There is zero tolerance for this behaviour, honouring the fee-paying students who are there to learn. For the child with the learning gap they are quickly identified and teacher mentors (in High School) are chosen by the child to help guide them as they need that extra attention, structure and guidance. So many times you hear that parents had no idea that there was a problem or they find out too late. Feed-back is the primary tool that is practised, which is also referred to as cycle tests, which enable each child and teacher to focus on what that child does not know, for that is where the learning needs to be supplemented and they receive this ahead of exams. Cycle tests also provide valuable feed-back to the teachers of how effective they have been in teaching each topic allowing them the opportunity to review topics if a large proportion of the children have not answered that question correctly and point out to each student individually which areas they need to focus on either by topic or skill. Feed-back is further manifested by having the teachers available for tutorials every week in high school, which only has a value if the child knows that they need help (owning their learning), being able to ask for this (self-advocating) and then more importantly being able to receive feed-back. We all know that practice is important for any skill and cycle tests provide ample opportunity to fail. We love failure as that is when the learning takes place not only academically but the students also truly learn experientially how to to hone their study skills ahead of their final year of school. Feed-back is an important lifeskill that translates to leading a more effective EQ life, which has been a higher determinant for a more successful work career. The culture of the school is manifested through co-education that it is cool to be smart and to work hard (diminishing the tall poppy syndrome) and the kids just love being there despite the lack of facilities - and believe me there really is a huge lack here - without even a library, no sports facilities etc. The school receives no funding from the government and the focus is on finding exceptional teachers, which was the primary determining factor for success as outlined in the Gonski report in 2010. Despite no facilities it has not stopped the school from achieving academically or socially (just review Chanel Contos' sex assault petition 2021, to see that Reddam had an inconsequential mention) and was 5th in the state of NSW in 2022. The parent body consists largely of conscious parents, for they have actively reviewed and considered this school, as they personally did not attend the school and therefore did not send their kids to a school just because the parent / grand-parent attended the school. There is no school board - just a principal. Some Y10 kids decided to take over the Canteen to better serve the student body and Mr Pitcairn supported them which was yet another amazing learning experience. Reddam is part of the Inspired Schools ( a global organisation). and this provides the opportunity to study at another Inspired School either in Europe or the USA. The school doesn't sweat the small stuff - like you have to wear winter uniform just because it is Term2, but has a multi-form uniform which allows girls to wear pants if they want to or boys to wear shorts all year. HIGHLY recommend this school."
"Terrible school! Grubby students who don’t have any morals and laugh when a kid breaks their collarbone. Raises rich, entitled and spoilt children."
"Some people are saying that Reddam House is the best school in Sydney and I can tell you that it is. Reddam offers a wide variety of activities, they have school musicals every year. They offer many sports, such as soccer, football, and netball, but also other sports, such as fencing, stand up paddleboarding. There is no shortage of fun at this school. There are 2 sessions of exams held in a year, one each semester. The Primary school subjects are, English, Mathematics, Computer Studies, Media Arts, Visual Arts, Languages (Hebrew, Mandarin, French), PDH, Sport, Science, History & Geography, Music, Drama. The children have 10minutes of Tutor in the morning with assigned tutor teachers, and 20minutes in the afternoons. On Fridays school ends at 2:07, but on all other days it ends at 3:00(Under Y3) or 3:30 (Over Y3). The Primary School's principal is a lovely woman called Dee Pitcairn, and her husband Dave Pitcairn is principal of the High school. The teachers at Reddam are attentive and kind. Some people are saying the school fees are very expensive, no wonder, it is such a truly great school. - I.M"
"It is an amazing school where the teachers are helpful at all times, you also get to learn how to be more responsible and independent. They have a massive music industry where you can learn a variety of different instruments. If you are advanced at your instrument you can join school band such as the Rock Band, the Brass Ansemble etc. It is required for each student to play an instrument which is great and they have great music teachers too. In Grade 5 you go class to class and have lockers. You also have 5 mins at your homeroom teacher, then the subjects start. Reddam House has a good basketball team and a Debate team ect. I highly recommend you coming and joining the Reddam House community!"
