Antarctica Flights

"What an amazing flight over the least visited continent on Earth. Antarctica is a special place, full of stark beauty and wonder."

"I paid $3999 for Premium economy and felt ripped off. I hoped to take good photos and see the Antarctic continent in comfort. I was let down by the pathetic seat allocation, window view obstructions and having to constantly move for crew and passengers to pass whilst standing up. My first seating was an inside cabin for first 2 hours over the Antarctic. Viewing could only done by standing in the aisle which I found it a nightmare as I was constantly having to move for cabin staff and other passengers. Although the Antarctic crew were obviously very excited and pleased with all they could see from their cabin, I found I couldn’t see much at all and had limited photo opportunities. Half time I did get a window seat, only the have the view half blocked by the plane wing, plane engine and other passengers taking photos. Drinks where good but the 2 meals were very average. There was little help from the antarctic cabin crew in assisting passengers to enjoy the tour. For instance, it took two call attempts to get the my meal tray cleared, no help with overhead baggage, and very limited communication with them. On a positive note, I did find the Antarctic commentators very knowledgeable and I was amazed at what I did see."

"This was an amazing flight and more than I could ever have expected. The commentary by the glaciologist was so very informative and well paced and helped with my and others understanding of this remote and incredible wilderness so close to Australia. Qantas chartered flight crew were friendly and professional and made it a very enjoyable experience for all passengers. I think I am still processing what I have seen - whenever I looked out the window there was always an awesome vista and photo opportunity - you didn't want to look away too often. Thank you to Antartica Flights, the expertise of the Antartica Scientific Foundation members onboard for the commentary and Qantas crew for such a once in a lifetime flight."

"Took the NYE Flight from Melbourne to Antarctica. Wow. Just stunning, seriously stunning. Wonderful service on board by both Qantas staff and the tour operator. Considering the only other way to reach the truly last untouched place on earth is a long, expensive cruise - these flights are something magic - experience Antarctica and be home the same day!! You really have to see to believe it. My only, only slight downside would be this. I took the NYE overnight flight (technically not night due to midnight sun down there which was a neat element in itself, seeing in midnight in broad daylight!) However, I felt there were quite a few travellers on the flight for the bar and little else. A mad crowd pushing and crowding for alcohol around the galleys then clustering in the doorway to drink and socialise was frustrating as I did spend $2500 to see Antarctica, not listen to Gary from Berwick rambling about the footy. So it was a bit of a battle to get past to windows and viewing points. Especially as the flight drew on and the drunks became more drunk and unable to comprehend you asking them to hop aside. I know the international bar service is an advertising point so this is a tricky one - because as I said, I wasn’t there for a flying piss up. It also made it near impossible to hear the presentation by the experts again, over drunken yelling. That said, I want to go again. And I will! But for avid photographers, maybe it’s best to stick to the “day” services. NYE was a party with a difference for sure but a bit of a letdown that my photography was hampered by teenager behaviour from grown adults. But again, the trip is one of a kind. It really is. A very special experience and like I said, despite the cost, I’m already saving to do it again next year hopefully! Perhaps I’ll go business for a better window."
