About Freshwater Park
Welcome to Freshwater Park, a charming neighbourhood park nestled in the heart of Strathfield, Australia. As an integral feature of the surrounding residential area, our park aims to provide recreation opportunities and enhance the local amenity and streetscape.
One of the primary objectives of Freshwater Park is to offer safe play areas for children, under the supervision of adults. We understand the importance of creating a secure environment where children can have fun and explore to their heart's content.
Situated along the scenic Bay to Bay Cycle and Walkway, Freshwater Park offers a picturesque setting for leisurely strolls and bike rides. The park also shares a section with the renowned Strathfield Golf Club, allowing golf enthusiasts to enjoy a round of golf amidst the park's natural beauty.
Flowing through the heart of Freshwater Park is the majestic Cooks River. This serene waterway adds to the park's charm, creating a tranquil ambiance for visitors to enjoy.
It's interesting to note that the land on which Freshwater Park resides was once considered unsuitable for development due to frequent flooding from the Cooks River. However, in the late 1920s, the developers of the Strathlea Estate transferred part of the estate to the council, which gradually purchased additional land to expand the park.
In 1929, the park was formally dedicated by the council and named in honor of William Freshwater, Strathfield Council's esteemed head gardener from 1887 to 1929.
The park's history also includes the establishment of the Strathfield Golf Club in October 1931. The club negotiated an agreement with the council to utilize 37 acres of Freshwater Park, ensuring that all respectable residents and ratepayers would have access to the club. Over time, the golf course expanded to 18 holes, thanks to the acquisition of additional land from the NSW Government Railways.
Apart from the golf course, Freshwater Park offers a publicly accessible area that features a children's playground, a small cricket wicket, playground apparatus, and seating. It's a perfect spot for families to spend quality time together, enjoying the outdoors and creating lasting memories.
For your convenience, public transportation options are readily available. The Trip Planner website provides detailed information on bus and train timetables and routes. If you prefer to drive, parking is available on Wilson Street and Ada Avenue.
As we enjoy the beauty and tranquility of Freshwater Park, we also acknowledge the Wangal people, the traditional custodians of the land on which the council is located. We pay our respects to Elders past, present, and emerging, honoring their deep connection to this land.
Come and experience the charm of Freshwater Park, where nature, recreation, and community come together harmoniously.

Reviews of Freshwater Park
"My local park, and it's quite a nice and lowkey one. Not overly built up, it's got the cricket pitch and net now. There used to be nice cockatoos on the gum tree before they chopped it down for the net. It's a nice place to walk through and the playground is quiet. Park is clean."
"Pont3 puts on many runs. The Cooks River Run at Freshwater Park is 1 of them. You can do a 2km, 4km or 10km run or walk. It is sponsored by Strathfield Council. When the run isn't on you can just relax in the park, have a picnic, walk your dog or take young children to the very small playground area."
"Adjacent to crooks river, it gives a pleasure to walk and cycle. It stretches to Dean reserve which feels like seculded place yet connected. There is small cricket pitch for juniors."
"Great place to gather when commencing a bicycle ride on Cooks River. We cycled through to Brighton-Le-Sands and enjoyed a wonderful swim."
