The Lilian Fraser Garden holds a special place in Hornsby Shire. It is an idyllic spot for picnics, weddings, and other events, or simply a peaceful stroll to appreciate its natural beauty. The garden covers an impressive 3,426 square meters and has a rich history.
Lilian Fraser, born in 1908, moved to Pennant Hills with her family when her father purchased the Hopetoun poultry farm. Over the years, most of the farm was sold for residential development, but an acre was preserved for the garden surrounding the house. Lilian Fraser, a renowned biologist, spent most of her life on the property and made significant contributions to the study of citrus diseases during her career.
As the trees and shrubs matured, the garden transformed into the enchanting woodland it is today. It boasts a wide range of plants, some of which are rare and remarkable for their size. In 1987, Dr. Fraser, with no immediate family, generously offered her garden to Hornsby Shire Council as her final wish, ensuring that it could be enjoyed as a public garden and park. Her legacy lives on, providing a serene and awe-inspiring experience for all who visit.
