About Waitara Oval Playground
Welcome to Waitara Oval Playground, located at Waitara Avenue in Waitara, Australia. This establishment is a park and a point of interest that is managed by the Hornsby Shire Council. The council has developed a long-term vision for the Shire, aiming to preserve its special characteristics and manage change effectively.
The Hornsby Shire Council values feedback from the community and encourages locals to have their say on important local issues. They also ensure that all building, renovations, and other developments in the area adhere to strict building codes and standards for safety.
Hornsby Shire is renowned for its beautiful bushland and waterways, making it a fantastic place to live. Alongside vibrant commercial centers, the Shire offers numerous sporting facilities and parks for residents to enjoy. The council takes pride in its responsibility for managing 2,000 hectares of bushland, implementing policies, strategies, and programs to protect the flora and fauna that inhabit these areas.
Investment opportunities in Hornsby Shire are plentiful, thanks to its highly-skilled local labor force and business-friendly council. The council adopted the Waitara Park Plan of Management in 2015, providing a master plan for the future development and management of Waitara Park.
Recent developments in the Waitara Park Precinct include the completion of the new Indoor Cricket Centre, featuring four indoor wicket lanes and a viewing area for the outdoor cricket nets. The facility also includes a groundman's shed and an underground OSD and irrigation tank to water the oval turf. Mark Taylor Oval underwent major construction works, resulting in an improved playing surface, new drainage and irrigation systems, and the installation of lightweight safety netting to retain balls within the oval.
Construction of the Waitara Park Tennis Courts and the associated Amenities Building was completed in 2017 and 2018, respectively. The tennis courts also serve as a flood detention basin to mitigate downstream flooding, while the amenities building boasts sustainable design features such as water harvesting tanks, solar panels, and natural ventilation systems.
The new inclusive playground, completed in 2019, offers a variety of play equipment options for all ages and abilities. It is fully fenced and includes shade sails, seating, picnic shelters, barbeques, and extensive garden beds. The park also features three exercise stations and additional car parking spaces.
At Waitara Oval Playground, the Hornsby Shire Council acknowledges and respects the Traditional Owners of the lands, the Darug and GuriNgai peoples. They recognize their ancestral connections and ongoing relationship to the Country.
