"We have just returned from Melbourne, where we spent a wonderful day with Wine Tours Victoria on the Mornington Peninsula, tasting wine and eating a delicious lunch. Trevor drove all the way from his home outside Melbourne to collect us in his beautiful and comfortable Merc van - even though we were the only punters on this day. We felt very privileged to have the tour all to ourselves, as we had previously booked with another company and had our tour cancelled due to low numbers. We were lucky with the weather, so saw some lovely scenery on the peninsula. We could have done without the freeway, but really there's no way around it if you want to get there quickly. We visited four outlets: Port Phillip, Stonier, Merrick's General Wine Store and Red Hill, and learnt a great deal about cool climate wines. The lunch at Merrick's was outstanding (we had the barramundi and the duck - both superb), and the coffee was the best we'd had for a long time. Highly recommended. I must also mention the cellar door hosts - all exceptionally knowledgeable, good-humoured and lovely people, making each visit a joy. Trevor has chosen well. We left Melbourne with a greater knowledge about wine, especially pinots and chardonnays, and with a few bottles that we purchased from the cellar doors clinking in our luggage. If I could make one tiny criticism, it would be that we tasted so many wines that by the end I was a bit bamboozled - nothing to do with imbibing, as we used the spitoons. Just a bit overwhelmed by the variety. Perhaps fewer examples would be a bit easier to manage...? The whole day was great - thank you Trevor."
