"We absolutely love, love, LOVE this place. Every single dish is so utterly sumptuous, we can’t waste a drop. Bilal deserves praise for attempting to popularize an otherwise grossly under-appreciated cuisine and creating joyful vibes midway up Sydney Road. If you don't live in the vicinity, you might never happen to pass by, but for authentic mamak food this good, I recommend you make the special trip. The atmosphere at Bilal is very simple, which is quite representative of the no-frills, laid back Mamak restaurants in Malaysia and Singapore. The service is friendly and welcoming while the servings are generous and very well priced. Perhaps for the unknowing patrons, Mamak cuisine is an acquired taste as Tamil-Muslim food is very rare in Australia. This is not at all like your regular North Indian or South Indian curry places that you get all over Australia."

As a true-blue Mamak bred on Tamil-Muslim food, I have found it quite hard to find homestyle food. The food here at Bilal is right out of flavourtown! It's perfectly, almost as delicious as my mum's food. Riffing on the chef's own Tamil-Muslim heritage, the food is aromatic, rich and affordable.
