About Royal Botanic Garden Sydney
Welcome to the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, a truly remarkable institution located in the heart of Sydney. Situated at Mrs Macquaries Road, this establishment is not just a park or a tourist attraction, but a place of immense cultural significance.
At the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, we hold deep respect for the Elders and Traditional Custodians of the lands on which the Gardens stand. We recognize these lands as historically, ceremonially, and traditionally important trading grounds. It is with this reverence that we invite you to explore the meeting point of people and plants, science and seasons, and nature and nurture.
Immerse yourself in the beauty of Australia's highest cool-climate botanic garden, nestled amidst the breathtaking alpine rainforest and the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area. This tranquil oasis offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature and gain a deeper understanding of the diverse plant species that call Australia home.
Located in Sydney's south-west, you will also find Australia's largest botanic garden, which serves as the home to the prestigious Australian Institute of Botanical Science. Here, groundbreaking research and conservation efforts are carried out, ensuring the protection of plant species and the preservation of our natural heritage.
We are proud to work alongside our community of members, volunteers, partners, and donors to continue our critical research and conservation efforts. By supporting the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, you are playing a vital role in safeguarding the future of our planet and ensuring that these Gardens remain centers of horticultural beauty and education for generations to come.

We fight tirelessly to protect and preserve the rich biodiversity that Australia has to offer. Join us in our mission by becoming a member of the Foundation & Friends and supporting your Gardens.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our family of Corporate Partners and Donors for their unwavering support. Without their generosity, our work would not be possible. Reviews of Royal Botanic Garden Sydney
"A place nice and relaxing place to stroll around without any entrance fee. Visited Royal Botanic Gardens during winter so most of the flowers were dead, but inside there was some kind of a green house where we still could enjoy beautiful plants and flowers."
"Huge park, great to spend time around to just read, relax, and picnic. The garden is very well maintained, toilets are clean. Flowers are all beautiful"
"Beautiful garden in the city centre. Great place to sit down and relax. It's quite quite and peaceful even though its located in the city. Each plant is labelled with their respective names. There are also various status around the park so well. Can easily spend more than an hour walking through the garden."
"Lush and beautiful. One of Sydney’s best (must see!) attractions and one of the most amazing botanic gardens in the world…harbor, opera house and city views included."
"The Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney is a heritage-listed major 30-hectare garden, event venue and public recreation area located at Farm Cove on the eastern fringe of the Sydney central business district. Opened in 1816, the garden is the oldest scientific institution in Australia and one of the most important historic botanical institutions in the world. The Garden and The Domain are open every day of the year and access is free. Highly recommended."
