About Lemon Scented Lawns
Welcome to Lemon Scented Lawns, located in the beautiful City of Monash at Monash University in Victoria, Australia. As one of the largest gardens on the Clayton campus, Lemon Scented Lawns is a true gem for students and visitors alike.
The name Lemon Scented Lawns derives from the magnificent Lemon-Scented Gum trees, scientifically known as Corymbia citriodora, that grace the gardens. These majestic trees are scattered throughout the park, filling the air with their delightful fragrance. Did you know that the essential oil extracted from these trees is primarily composed of citronellal, making it a sought-after ingredient in perfumery? Additionally, the refined oils from these trees are used in insect repellents, showcasing their versatility and value.
Situated north of the Campus Centre, Lemon Scented Lawns offers a wide expanse of well-maintained grass, inviting students to relax, study, or engage in various activities. The park features water fountains that provide a refreshing respite during warmer days, and convenient laptop recharge points to ensure students can stay connected. The Clayton Sound Shell, a prominent feature of the park, serves as a venue for performances and events, adding an artistic touch to this vibrant space.
At Lemon Scented Lawns, we take pride in creating a welcoming environment for students and visitors. It is a popular gathering place where students can unwind, socialize, and engage in extracurricular activities. Whether you're looking to enjoy a picnic with friends, play a game of frisbee, or simply relax under the shade of the Lemon-Scented Gum trees, this park offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of campus life.
We would like to acknowledge and pay our respects to the Elders and Traditional Owners of the land on which our Australian campuses stand. We recognize the importance of Indigenous culture and heritage and strive to create an inclusive and respectful environment for all.
As the Chief Marketing Officer of University Marketing, Admissions, and Communications, I invite you to explore Lemon Scented Lawns and experience the tranquility and beauty it has to offer. We hope that this park becomes a cherished part of your Monash University experience.
