About the Business
Welcome to Taku Japanese, a unique establishment located in Camberwell, Burke Road, Australia. As a renowned restaurant and point of interest, Taku Japanese offers an unforgettable dining experience that combines traditional Japanese cuisine with the art of gyotaku.
Originating in Japan in the mid-1800s, gyotaku is a form of nature printing created by fishermen to immortalize their prized catches. Using ink or paint, the fishermen would press rice paper onto the fish, resulting in stunning impressions. Over time, gyotaku has evolved into a revered art form in its own right.
The founder of Taku Japanese was born in a coastal city and comes from a long line of fishermen spanning four generations. With a deep affection for the sea and its creatures, he had a life-changing experience witnessing live gyotaku art. This encounter ignited his passion for Japanese food culture, leading him to establish Taku Japanese 13 years later.
At Taku Japanese, we offer a wide range of authentic Japanese dishes, ranging from small edamame beans to impressive party platters. Our menu also includes a selection of fruity alcoholic drinks and premium sake, ensuring a truly immersive culinary experience. Each dish is prepared with the utmost care and attention to detail, reflecting the genuine flavors found in Japan.
The interior design of Taku Japanese is a beautiful blend of traditional wood elements and modern simplicity. This unique fusion pays homage to both the rich fisherman culture of Japan and the timeless elegance of Japanese design. Step inside and be transported to the heart of Japanese culture.

Reviews
"Inconsistent… Some excellent dishes. The Tacos with different flavours (Tuna, Prawn etc) are mouth watering. Oysters delicious. Sashimi was fresh and tasted beautiful. The mains are not as dazzling as the entrees - the Teriyaki Salmon dish is very small for $28.00, the Tonkatsu Chicken was very dry and the Signature dish was messy. Portions are incredibly small. The price is incredibly unjustified. A bit hit and miss."
"Our group tried multiple dishes and sake, everything was delicious and service was excellent! Will definitely come back :)"
"Step into Taki, the authentic Japanese restaurant that feels like a typical spot you'd find in Tokyo. Don't expect anything too high-end, but rather a casual and welcoming atmosphere where the focus is on the food. The service is efficient and friendly, but don't be surprised if you have to wait a bit as the staff runs a lean team. However, the wait is well worth it once you take your first bite of the delicious food. The decor is simple and clean. But don't let the unassuming ambiance fool you - the food is where Taki truly shines. We ordered a variety of dishes, including mixed tempura, truffle and foie gras rice, agedashi tofu, and abalone tataki. Each dish was authentic and flavorful. The mixed tempura was fried to perfection with a light and crispy batter, while the truffle and foie gras rice was a rich and decadent dish that left us feeling satisfied. The agedashi tofu had a silky texture and was served in a flavorful broth, while the abalone tataki was crunchy, tangy and fresh. Overall, Taki is a fantastic spot for anyone looking for an authentic taste of Tokyo without breaking the bank."
"Restaurant with potential, which decides to greed for profit. Tightly packed so you can smell the person next to you, this restaurant does nothing to make sure you are guaranteed a good experience. From slow server service (bringing out 1 small item at a time) Slow food speed. People are not joking about the wait time for food to come out. Awkward food timings. In our case receiving a main at the start and end of the dinner. You can tell there is some sort of problem with staffing both out front and back. We gave our feedback on the way out...or tried to comment on how incredibly slow the service was and the person we spoke to just said "Do you speak Chinese? I can let you give your feedback to the chef, because I just work out front." HUH? We were trying to be constructive not nasty. When we reiterated we wanted the manager or owner to know...the person said "Oh don't worry... I'll let them know." With a smirk on their face. This is not it. Until they fix their issues, or even reply to people with much to say about how bad the experience don't give this restaurant your time, because they will certainly waste yours. 1.5 hour dining time for 5 dishes. 1 they wanted to whip up quickly after they forgot it. Bonus photo: large plate for almost no sushi?"
