About the Business
Welcome to Arts House, an establishment and point of interest located in North Melbourne, Australia. Our institution is dedicated to acknowledging and honoring the Traditional Owners of the land, the Bunurong Boon Wurrung and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung peoples of the Eastern Kulin Nation. We pay our respect to Elders both past and present, as well as to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
At Arts House, we understand the immersive and sometimes chaotic nature of the artistic process. As an artist, you may often find yourself buried in the studio, covered in materials, and lost in the worlds you create. That's why we strive to create a space that supports and nurtures artists, providing them with the resources and environment they need to thrive.
One of our core values is accessibility. We believe that art should be available to everyone, regardless of their background or abilities. That's why our Season 2 program features a wide range of shows with accessible performances, including Auslan Interpreted and Relaxed performances. We want everyone to have the opportunity to engage with and appreciate the arts.
We are particularly excited to showcase Liang Luscombe's exhibition, 'Okkoota'. Through this exhibition, Luscombe explores her experience and the imprints of Okkoota on the building. Okkoota, a Kannada word meaning 'assembly, gathering without contest', invites visitors to come together and engage with the artwork in a meaningful way.
On the opening night of Okkoota, our Co-Artistic Director, Nithya Nagarajan, delivered remarks expressing the significance of this exhibition. She highlighted the power of assembly and the importance of creating spaces where people can come together without contest.
We were also privileged to have Guest Curator, Vishal Kumaraswamy, share his thoughts on the opening night. Kumaraswamy emphasized the transformative potential of art and the role of Okkoota in bringing people together for a collective experience.
We invite you to visit Arts House and immerse yourself in the vibrant world of contemporary art. Located at 521 Queensberry Street, North Melbourne, we are a hub of creativity, innovation, and inclusivity. Join us as we celebrate the power of art to inspire, challenge, and unite.

Reviews
"I visited this place as a part of RISING 2023 to view "Under Maintenance". From my first impression, the building looked nice and the staff were helpful. Will visit here again sometime."
"Haven't been inside, it looks interesting from outside."
"A brilliant arts organisation, they look after their artists including those who are Deaf or with disabilities. They are very Deaf friendly and make sure we all have access. A wonderful team of very friendly and dedicated people that set up incredible exhibitions, and have great tech staff who set up the exhibitions professionally including projectors and hanging works. Arts House have really good arts events that are worth visiting! And they do great media releases for artists exhibitions too."
"I went for the What is VR activity that's part of the Melbourne International Film Festival, the staff were so incredibly helpful and friendly, going above and beyond to make sure I got into the different VR sessions by personally escorting me and making arrangements with the various ushers. The VR shows themselves were amazing as well. While the VR exhibits are not permanent, if this is the level of exhibits that can be exhibited I'm sure it's a place worth visiting."
"I had my first VR experience there and it was superb! The room is not dedicated for VR, but it was specially set up for the show. There are still shows going on this week as part of the Melbourne International Film Festival. Go and check it out if you are around."
