Nan Yang Malaysian & Thai Bankstown
About the Business
Welcome to Nan Yang Malaysian & Thai Bankstown! We would like to express our gratitude to all our loyal customers and family for their support over the past four and a half years. While we bid farewell to our beloved Nan Yang Malaya Marrickville, Macquarie Park, and Haymarket Tea Club, we are excited to invite you to our other venues at Ipoh Hawker in Roseberry and Blacktown at the Dining Collective. Thank you for being a part of our journey.
At our café, we offer a delightful selection of fragrant curries, flavorful rice dishes, and mouthwatering noodles for both lunch and dinner. You can indulge in our signature dishes such as laksa, Roti Canai (soft flaky roti served with satay or curry), and Ipoh Hor Fun. We are also proud to bring you traditional favorites like Nasi Kerabu (made with our unique Blue Coconut Rice) and Hainanese Chicken with Rice Balls. To complement your meal, choose from a curated selection of teas from Nanyang Tea Club, refreshing Singapore Tiger beer, or locally crafted beers from Young Henrys. And don't forget to enjoy a pick-me-up with our Malaya Kopi (coffee).
Step into Nan Yang Malaya and be transported to a British Malaya’s Kopitiam-inspired café, reminiscent of the relaxed and laid-back atmosphere found on the streets of Singapore. Our décor features a rickshaw, rosewood furniture, flea market chairs, and tabletops made from old doors. Marvel at the beautiful marble tables and wall mural created by local artist-illustrator Lew Keilar.
We take pride in supporting local businesses, and our freshly baked bread is supplied by Shepherd’s Artisan Bakehouse. For beer lovers, we serve the popular Young Henrys Newtowner, IPA, and Stayers. Additionally, we have collaborated with a local wine merchant in St Peters to curate a wine list that pairs perfectly with our menu. Stay tuned for more exciting collaborations with our new locals!
We are thrilled to be featured in Scott Bolles' weekly Short Black column in Good Food, as recognized by the Sydney Morning Herald. Our signature laksa, made with Coconut Curry Noodle Soup and a delicious mix of chewy and vermicelli noodles topped with fresh bean sprouts, is a must-try. The secret to its incredible taste lies in our special paste!
Singlish, the Singaporean local lingo, is a fascinating blend of English, Mandarin, Hokkien, Cantonese, Malay, and Tamil. It is universally used in the country, regardless of the language you speak, and adds to the cultural experience at Nan Yang Malaya.
Fish is known to be one of the most wholesome foods, enjoyed by humans throughout history. We incorporate this nutritious ingredient into our dishes, ensuring a satisfying and healthy dining experience.
Visit us at Nan Yang Malaya Macquarie Park, located at 297 Lane Cove Rd, with parking available at the rear via McDonald's entrance off Lane Cove Rd. We look forward to serving you authentic Malaysian and Thai cuisine at our Bankstown establishment.

"The food is delicious, actually make us all full halfway in because of portions too great and full plate! The atmosphere is chill, and the room temperature is warm enough for winter . I'm glad that it wasn't as packed as usual."
"Be warned that the service is very slow!!!! However, I do understand that they just opened and that the staff here still need more training in ensuring customers get their menu, water to their table and orders taken. Only one staff member on the floor looked like she had previous experience and had a sense of urgency/ time-keeping in serving customers. It also took about half an hour for the first dish to arrive and then another 20 minutes for the second dish. Note that the restaurant was not full. The egg gravy dish was yummy and a large portion but didn’t taste authentic. The Nadi Kerabu with assam prawns had fragrant rice and a really strong sour chilli sauce on the prawns. It was interesting… not an enjoyable flavour for me. The sambal was also quite disappointing as it didn’t have the spicy kick. I believe that this restaurant will improve in the future and will come back then. They offered a 20% discount for their grand opening, so if you don’t mind the wait, definitely check them out!"
