Reviews of Underground Cinema
"The organisers should have cancelled the event if COVID restrictions meant they were unable to run the event they had initially planned. In the absence of any other activities, $90 to watch Silence of the Lambs is ridiculous. I could only laugh when we were lectured on eye contact by the behavioural psychology expert and then told to run around some traffic cones with flashlights. I had the distinct feeling they had devised the activities in a last minute panic. This would be understandable if restrictions had begun hours before, but they had months to design the experience. The best part of the event was the queue – at least before we entered there was something to be excited about. In saying that, the actors did a good job chatting in character in the foyer, and of course the film is excellent, but the organisers can take credit for neither."
"Terrible event and completely disappointing. Absolute waste of money to the point I have emailed the company to express my disappointment. Here's what I wrote: I am writing to you to express my utter disappointment in your FBI event last weekend. I was very excited to attend as have been meaning to go on one of UC's events for quite some time. I was under the impression that it would be similar to the Secret Cinema events that I had attended in London years ago which were amazing and made you feel like you were actually in the movie/on set/on location. Unfortunately, the whole thing was a complete let down and very poorly managed. Firstly, to send out the White Rabbit clues and crossword a few hours before I was due to attend was annoying, why not send this a day or two earlier so I could look through it properly? Most people were still at work when it was sent out and then had to travel to the venue and I frantically read through it 10 mins before entering the venue. The really sad thing is that this exercise had completely no correlation to the night and it was pointless. There were so many missed opportunities here as this was the only fun part of the night but nothing came of it sadly. In fact, there were so many opportunities that you could have done to make this a fun and fully immersive experience. As the film was Silence of The Lambs, surely you could have had a room set up like the prison that Hannibal Lecter was locked up in behind the glass and have an actor dressed up as him and wearing the mask over his mouth? You could have had posters and clues all around the building/corridor about Buffalo Bill and his murders and even better, why not have something like a scavenger hunt type activity where we would have to work out the clues from post mortems, evidence, images etc and maybe even have us watch in on an interrogation? I feel that I could have made this event so much more appropriate and worth the money than UC did. It felt like all we did was pay $92 to see an old film from the 90's and lots of sitting around wondering what's happening next (why was there 2 x 20 min intervals?!). I mean, even at the end of the film during Clarice's graduation, they had drinks and an FBI cake...surely, we could have had this after the movie? Wouldn't have cost much! I feel completely ripped off and while the actors were great, that's the only good thing about the event. I believe that you need to re-plan any future events otherwise you'll not have anyone attend! From your latest reviews I can see that this is how all the participants from last weekend feel too."
"We went to the FBI underground cinema and was incredibly disappointed with the whole event. The tickets were expensive and yet the whole production was completely sub standard. We spent more time standing around doing nothing and the two activities which are part of the show were laughable. We sat through a PowerPoint presentation which had zero relevance to the show, we are still wondering what the point was. The second activity was running around outside pointing flashlights at the other participants?? The grand finale was watching silence of the lambs on a projector screen while sitting in a hall - $93 a ticket? In all seriousness, paying $93 for a ticket is a downright cheek and completely unacceptable for what we got. Underground Cinema should be embarrassed about their production, our whole group will definitely not be going to another underground cinema event. Of all the amazing productions one can attend in Melbourne - this ain’t it."
"We went to the recent FBI immersive experience. I have to agree, it was thoroughly disappointing this time. I don't usually add a review, but I was super excited for this, and it was a very lackluster event! We went to Shutter Island a couple of years back which in comparison, knocked this out of the park. I think the event was poorly organised. Unlike the Shutter Island experience, the venue was a poor choice and had nothing elaborate to really add to the storytelling. The actors were fantastic though, but they weren't working with much to jazz up the experience. While the online component of the crossword clue puzzle was fun, when it meant nothing and didn't lead to anything - it was anti-climatic. The immersive activities of a lecture and drill were pretty ordinary. The food was a let down and there was a lot of waiting around. The other thing that was super annoying was there was no clear indication of when the thing starts, so we bought food and a drink then we were asked to gather around to commence, and we had to slam our food and drink back. At $90 a ticket - you definitely expect more effort. It really screamed that the company were trying to execute on a shoestring budget. if this is to generate much needed funds to put on a better event next time, then it's understandable, considering it's post Covid, but if the next event is as ordinary as this one, I'm afraid the company may loose my interest."
"What went wrong here?! We went to the FBI event. We were initially very impressed by the actors, we enjoyed the two activity sessions, even if a bit corny. But then the night abruptly drops in quality after that when they sit you down and just play silence of the lambs?! Also, the White rabbit murder clues and crossword suggested we would need to find the murderer and that this would sync up with the activities and storyline they were setting up on the night but they meant nothing at all? Even the answer to crossword didn't really mean much of anything? The whole experience feels unfinished. This type of event has huge potential but for $90, I strongly do not recommend!"
