About the Business
Welcome to Joseph Banks Native Plants Reserve, a hidden gem located in Kirrawee, Australia. Situated at the address Manooka Place, this establishment is not just a park, but also a point of interest and tourist attraction that showcases the beauty of Australian native plants.
As you explore this tranquil reserve, you will be immersed in a world of nature and biodiversity. Spread across 2.2 hectares, the reserve encompasses both remnant bushland areas and meticulously designed themed gardens. These gardens include the Aboriginal food and medicinal plants, Acacia garden, scented garden, silver foliage garden, rainforest, cycads, ferns, mixed shade, and mixed Proteaceae beds. The diverse range of native plants creates a harmonious environment that attracts an abundance of birds and other native fauna.

With four kilometers of sealed paths, you can meander through the reserve at your own pace, taking in the beauty of the surrounding flora and fauna. This is also the perfect spot for a leisurely picnic or barbecue. The upper part of the reserve features the largest barbecue and picnic facilities area, easily accessible via the main entry at Manooka Place.
We encourage community involvement and welcome volunteers at our maintenance workdays, which are organized twice a month by Bushcare and the Australian Plants Society’s Sutherland Group. These opportunities allow you to contribute to the preservation and upkeep of this unique reserve.
The history of Joseph Banks Native Plants Reserve is deeply rooted in the legacy of Sir Joseph Banks, the renowned botanist who accompanied Lieutenant James Cook on the HMS Endeavour. In 1770, Banks collected various flora specimens from the nearby Botany Bay, and today, Australian plants such as the Banksia and Grevillea banksii bear his name. Established in 1969, this reserve stands as a tribute to Sir Joseph Banks and his contributions to the field of botany.
While exploring the reserve, you will find amenities to enhance your visit. Five picnic tables, two electric barbecue hotplates, directional signage, and seating are conveniently placed within the gardens. Please note that portable barbecues are not permitted. Accessible paths are available from the main entry at Manooka Place, leading to the largest barbecue and picnic facilities area, as well as the Sun Tolerant Flowering Garden. Public toilets, including accessible facilities, are also located along these paths.
To further assist you during your visit, we have provided a downloadable brochure on our website. This brochure contains detailed information about the reserve, including a map of the paths available for exploration.
