Designed by Breathe, The Commons has become a groundbreaking prototype for the Nightingale model, showcasing the ideas of material reductionism and the social impacts of shared facilities. Its unique approach has garnered widespread attention, earning national awards and laying the foundation for Nightingale Housing.

At The Commons, our design strategy revolves around doing more with less, prioritizing space, height, light, and air. From the vibrant and open street frontage to the green wall on the northern facade, every aspect of The Commons is meticulously crafted for maximum sustainability and comfort over a long lifetime. The apartment interiors feature raw and recycled materials, adding to the eco-friendly ethos of the institution.

We take immense pride in acknowledging the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which The Commons stands. We recognize and appreciate their ongoing connection to the land, waters, and culture.

Nightingale Housing, a non-profit organization, operates on Wurundjeri Country, holding the NoCO2 certification #N376ACN 649 301 011. We pay our respects to the Elders, both past and present, of the Wurundjeri/Woiwurrung people of the Kulin Nation. We acknowledge their deep-rooted connection to the land, its waterways, and the community.
