Reviews of Athlone Mail Centre (Ionad Poist Bhaile Átha Luain)
"The postman just simply lazy to get out from his car and open the gate when its not widely open as it used to. During years was never a problem to open it when we are not at home, because of this we did not receive an important letter."
"Impossible to contact! I had 1 parcel send back to sender, re-sent and back to sender! Nobody contacted me!!!! Now I have another parcel sent back to sender…again I had no phone call or message from anyone! If you try to call them… no answer! Just do your job!!"
"I don't know why these people bother to have phone numbers listed on their website. I have been trying for 3 days to contact them about a parcel return, without reply. This is a disgraceful service to offer in this day and age, covid or no covid."
"Letter of Complaint for Athlone Postal Distribution centre To whom it concerns, I am writing to you as an enraged and extremely disgruntled customer. Ultimately, the problem is that An Post has changed my home address from Co Offaly to Co Westmeath due to the nearest postal distribution centre being in Athlone. This has been a relatively recent issue perhaps 10+years but what really annoyed me is that it took over 4 working days (I sent it to be in Wednesdays post and it arrived the following Tuesday) for my mother to receive her Mother's Day card this time. I put Clonmacnoise, Shannonbridge, Athlone, Co Offaly and used the correct Eircode to ensure it got there and got there in time for Mother's day. When you Google that eircode or use the eircode finder, it comes up as Clonmacnoise, Co Offaly because Clonmacnoise is in Co Offaly and we are proud that it is and that is our correct address. There was a delay with my mother receiving this card (a sticker was added saying to use Co Westmeath) because I hadn't put the wrong address (ie used Co Westmeath instead of Co Offaly) on the card. There is a delay on post getting to us if Co Offaly is used. It is ridiculous. I feel like locals are being bullied into using a county Westmeath address when we reside and live in Offaly. I will also be writing to my local TD on this matter as I have had enough of using the incorrect address on my home place. Ultimately, I want to use Co Offaly on my home address and not be penalised to do so. Yours sincerely, Emily O'Connor"
"Disgraceful service. Went with son to pick up a parcel of his. Presented he presented the card to the man who attended the counter. He pushed the card passed my son looking expectantly at me to sign for the parcel. I said it's his parcel he can sign for it. Unfriendly he asked was he 14, then said under 14 can't sign for it. To me that is strange as an age for signing, so I asked where is that rule. He turned aggressive pointed to a number on the wall and said ring them on Monday. I said I just wanted to know where the rule was written, not wanting to challenge it, just have him prove he didn't make it up. All I got was that he didn't make to rules. This with other bad experiences I've had here mean I on purpose avoid An Post, if it could end up in this place, when I have a choice even if it costs more."
