Reviews of The Anglers Rest
"Called in and it was busy which is fair enough. The girl told us there would be a 20 minute wait. That was OK too we werent in any big rush. We asked did we have to book for 20 minutes time and she said no and to just call back. Fair enough. We went for a wander and came back 20 minutes later. She then told us that the 20 minute wait was just to get a table, but once we were sitting down it would be another 45 minutes before our order would be taken. Come on lads now, that's not how things are done. Just say you'll need to book cos there's at least an hours wait. This is the second time in as many months that I've tried to eat here because of the good reviews. The last time the humourless girl seemed surprised and irritated that I hadn't thought to book ahead. Like a lot of people I'm sure, we were staying in the massive hotel around the corner and thought we'd check if there was anywhere decent to eat locally. We're not from here and therefore thought we'd just call in and ask politely. You'd have thought I was asking if I could sell her baby for crack money. By all accounts the food is great, but I wouldn't know. The service wasn't great and came with a bit of an unneccessary attitude (I'm polite, friendly and outgoing and I only ask the same in return) And as for the 20 minute wait for a 45 minute wait. That's just wrong and well you know it. The wee Chinese takeaway across the street was really excellent and the nice friendly woman apologised profusely for keeping me standing for 15 minutes cos they were busy. I told her the apology wasn't necessary cos the food smelled great. We both had a wee laugh and got on with our evenings You should send your girl over for half an hour to see how it's done. I think that will be my last try. Shame really cos the place itself seemed nice and had a good buzz about it."
"Lovely pub restaurant great atmosphere even tough it was a weekday .staff very helpful and polite .food delicious and the owner keeping an eye ensuring all customers were being looked after and stopping to have a nice chat with them"
"Amazing food but poor service! Service very poor: -I had to get the attention of a waitress in order to get us seated (including pointing out a table that was free) - waitress told us the special only for another one to tell us that is wasn’t on -never told the soup or fish of the day - had to wait ages for the food to arrive - never asked how the food was (my steak was over cooked but it would have taken ages to get the attention of a staff member to get another steak but on & didn’t want to wait again) - very difficult to get the attention of the limited number of staff on to take away the plates, get us the dessert menus, dessert spoons only provided after desserts were serviced (2 spoons were soup spoons) The food was absolutely delicious bar my steak being over cooked. The peppercorn sauce & chips really stood out. The service was the issue but I have found most establishments in the last 5 years the service has really deteriorated. Easily resolved with proper training to make the dining experience 5 star again. Drink service was excellent. There may have been a genuine reason why there seemed to be a lack of staff & therefore a longer waiting time. All the staff have to do is initially let the customers know approx. how long they will be waiting which will give them the option to stay or go. Also I would love to see the fillet steak back on the menu as it was the most delicious steak I’ve ever had anywhere We will definitely be back because the food is amazing & hopefully next time the service will have improved majorly."
"Had a nice steak burger in this classic irish pub and diner, with great vibe ans ambiance. Very friendly and efficient staffs too. Desserts was amazing, my favourite was their carrot cake with vanilla ice cream. Definitely recommended!"
"Very pleasant stay B&B. Room spotless. Gastropub full of character inside and out with a full and varied menu. Service friendly and efficient for a full house of customers. Highly recommend."
