Reviews of Colaiste Chiarain
"If you are considering sending your minor child to Colaiste Chiarain, DON'T UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. I've never in my life dealt with such people as I did last year when I made the mistake of sending my daughter there. She went with her best friend and the excitement from them both was palpable. A rule was broken (second phone was brought), not the first and won't be the last but the way her friend was treated was appalling. All of the girls were called from their beds in their nightclothes after 11pm at night by the Fear an Ti to find out who had brought it. The girl owned up but that wasn't good enough. A second adult male was called to the house to shout about it (no female present but this had been the theme of the week, she was nowhere to be seen so don't expect your minor girls to be protected by the Bean an Ti). The second male (Vice Prinicpal and brother in law of the Fear an Ti ,I might add!!!!) then aggressively demanded all girls switch on their phones to prove they were working phones. Despite being forewarned before my daughters arrival that she suffered severe social anxiety, he was in her face demanding it be turned on as she was visibly shaking. All of the girls were then sent to bed but my daughter's friend was then kept in the kitchen alone with these two grown men to be verbally chastised over and over before eventually sent to bed. At no stage was a female advocate available for the girls. The following day the girls were interviewed by Aoife (another staff member and family relation to the other two). Aoife made sure an advocate was with her during this interview, something the girls weren't given the benefit the night before. My daughter and her friend were collected that evening after asking not to stay any longer (and just in case some rubbish response comes back after this review - my daughter was not punished in any way and her friends suspension for the rule break came through when the girls had already returned home). Despite sending several emails looking for child safety policies, GDPR policies and Complaints procedures, I was only directed to their website and the Irish policies. They would not furnish me them in English. Coilin, a director of the college and another relation - (can you see a theme arising here?) was sarcastic and arrogant in his responses to a parent looking for basic policies that every institution dealing with children should have to hand. I requested an apology for the treatment of the adults involved to my child and while they agreed my daughter had broken no rules, had been a delight to have and was welcome to come back after the weekend, they refused point blank to apologise or refund her second week. The lack of basic decency and the absolute refusal to see the wrongdoing by the entire establishment was breathtaking. It quickly became clear that this college has branches of the same family throughout and shut up shop to protect the bad decision making of two grown men dealing with young girls. Please look elsewhere if you are considering an Irish College. I wish I'd done more research and I'm sure there are far better run ones in the country. Don't make the same mistake I did."
