Reviews
"I had to come back for a second night in a row. The food is perfect and the atmosphere is unassuming and welcoming. It's a small place so you may want to make reservations. I would come to Galway just for this. I like the duck."
"The calamari was extremely rubbery, but the oddest part of the experience was: at the end of my meal, I asked where the toilet was. I was told that I wasn’t allowed use the restroom, because the chef was angry. This is the most insane and unprofessional thing I have ever experienced. The server made sure to assure me that it was “nothing personal” which again was a bizarre addition to it all. Truly truly odd experience. ALSO: Two fish and chips and a calamari with x2 cokes cost 51 euro???? You can get a portion of fish for less than a tenner across the road, save your time and money. EDIT : The owners response to the above review is yet another example of an odd culture that clearly exists in this venue. Whether he said so or not, a waiter told me that they had let 2-3 people use the bathroom, and that the chef was very angry at the mess, and therefore I would not be allowed use the restroom. To try imply I was lying in my original review is indicative of their clear detachment from reality. The response to customer dissatisfaction is not anger or confrontation. Try owning up to the shabby way your restaurant is run. And if that’s what your cooking tastes like after 35 years, might I suggest a career change?"
"Nice atmosphere and friendly service but very slow on the food delivery. Booked a table for 5 and for the most part our group was happy. Would recommend the chicken skewers, fish n chips and 10oz steak. While the mussels looked lovely and broth was nice I now regret not sending them back to be cooked further, we knew they were undercooked for our taste, but having ate the majority of them myself I’ve been sick I like the rest of the party. Similarly, the vegetables with the Hake specifically the large pieces of sweet potato were very undercooked. Fried prawn appetizer was ok but not something we’d order again for 3-4 prawns. Would recommend the wine and liquor over a pint, the Guinness wasn’t poured well and that’s coming from 3 locals."
"I went to Gemelle's last weekend with a group of 4 girls for a mini hen. The food was excellent and the service was exceptional. The staff went above and beyond to make my friends night special and memorable. I really can't thank them enough. Dervla was an absolutely phenomenal host and we couldn't be happier with our choice to go there. Thanks to all the staff for a great night. I hope to be back again soon!"
"Cozy place. In the center and bar area. Fast service and friendly staff. Homemade and freshly made food. I recommend you to ask about the dishes of the day. Covid-19 measurements: it may seem small but there is good separation between tables. They clean the tables well between customers. Besides, they have a disinfectant dispenser at the entrance (with pedal) and a person controlling that customers disinfect their hands before entering. Definitely highly recommended."
