"If you have read Pete McCarthy's (almost) same titled book then you will know what to expect when you walk into MacCarthy's Bar. A warm welcome from sisters, Aidrenne and Niki, a great atmosphere and pugs everywhere. This lively bar welcomes dogs inside and serves a great pint of Guinness."
"Go to this bar if you are in Castletownbere and have the crab sandwiches they are amazing - proper hand-picked crab, look at the picture, in soft brown bread - all that was needed was a squeeze of lemon provided. Being well known from the book MacCarthy's Bar, hasn't spoilt this place at all. The beer is good, the owner and her staff are really friendly and chatty and it has a proper traditional Irish atmosphere. We went several times including an evening with guitar music when it was full of jolly Spaniards as Castletownbere is a fishing port with such big connections to the Spanish fishing industry they even have an embassy there. There is always a warm welcome at MacCarthy's go there."
"Stopped in for a pint and some food. Very cosy traditional pub with tasty food and a selection of drinks. Staff are very friendly and if you're lucky, you may get to make friends with the pugs."
