But our establishment goes beyond being just a restaurant; it is a point of interest with a rich history. The Black Cat is named after a famous American painter, Frank Weston Benson, who fell in love with the beauty of Glengarriff and made it the subject of his many paintings. He lived in a nearby house that is now known as 'The Pink House,' and it is believed that Benson would often feed a black cat that roamed the area. This is how the restaurant got its name, paying homage to Benson's love for the region.
At The Black Cat, we strive to create an atmosphere that is warm, welcoming, and inviting. Our friendly staff is always ready to greet you with a smile, making you feel right at home. We have a spacious dining area that is tastefully decorated with hints of black and white, which give the room a modern and elegant vibe. From the large windows, you can enjoy glorious views of the surrounding hills and valleys.
In summary, The Black Cat, Glengarriff is a unique establishment that ticks all the boxes for an excellent dining experience. We offer a variety of delicious dishes, friendly service, and stunning surroundings that make us a point of interest, not just a restaurant. Whether you're visiting Glengarriff or live nearby, we invite you to come and indulge in our warm hospitality, mouth-watering meals, and unforgettable ambiance.

"We got some fish & chips as takeout with additional onion rings. They take a bit to make as the onion was cut freshly :) The food was tasty and that's what matters."
"Great burgers. There was nowhere to sit, but since I was staying across the street, the owner allowed us to bring in burgers and served us beers."
"My mother always told me to stay quiet if you don't have something good to say. I have to make an exception here. I walked in with my two children to get an ice cream and on first impression would have walked back out. It did not look very clean. The only thing that stopped me was the hopeful expression on the face of the young lad behind the counter. We ordered two 99s and a cone with two scoops of ice cream from a very limited choice. The top scoop fell to the floor as soon as it was handed over and went straight into the bin. The two 99s were yellow and did not look like ice cream. Even the flakes didn't taste right. I paid €9 without complaint being typical of the Irish and threw all the ice creams into a conveniently located bin not far from the door. I really want to finish by saying something positive but I just can't think of anything. Black Cat needs to seriously up its game."
"Got a curry chip late at night. Tried to charge me €6 when €5 was on the menu board. Slight chance it was an oversight but I'm much more inclined to believe he tried to pull a quick one on the blow in tourist with a few pints on board. A full euro out.!! Beware"
"Really doesnt look like much from the outside and there is a slightly confusing look to it because of the mix of ice cream and hot food but... The fish and chips was lovely and fresh and delicious and the burgers were top class. Bit of a wait because everything was cooked from scratch but worth the wait. The place could do with a makeover inside and the seating area outside and the signage but don't let that put you off, the food is excellent and don't forget to tip the lovely young girl (6 or 7) helping her father, possibly grandfather."
